Apply for your Visa
Invest in some warm clothes, because arizona weather is nothing like the rainy vancouver weather
Start apartment/house hunting ASAP. it takes forever to find a good, decently priced place. And you want it BEFORE you leave for canada!
Start a savings account and save up some of your money! vancouver is EXPENSIVE. no ifs ands or buts.

Start working on the visa you will need since it could take that long (or longer) to get it IF you qualify.

Start convincing yourself that moving from a desert to a rain forest is a good thing.

Ignore razorwire as that is an ignorant and moronic response.

As for the question itself, your best bet would be to get used to a lot of rain. An umbrella is a good idea. Don't listen to weather deniers who swear up and down that it never rains on their part of the city. Get a good pair of hiking boots as Vancouver has a fair number of hilly places.

Take care of all the legal stuff as others have suggested. Don't get too hung up about the apartment situation, it will be expensive, but if you already live in Phoenix or Tucson, it won't be a huge shock to you. If you're looking to buy a place, it's a different story. Half a million gets you a basic house in Vancouver if you're lucky. The same money in AZ could probably get you a decent house with a pool (maybe not in the upper crust neighbourhoods, but still....). Best bet would be to come to Vancouver and spend a week or two touring different areas to get an idea where you want to live. It's a nice city, but definitely culturally and climatically different than Arizona.

buy extra warm clothing. if you see any on sale GET IT! STOCK UP! its so cold over here >< don't forget about scarfs, and gloves. if you don't have an umbrella GET ONE! the day you come would probably be raining. don't forget about water proof shoes, and a rain jacket. i would get this stuff in the states cuz lots of canadians go to the states to by this kinda stuff cuz its cheaper and they have more styles of clothing.

i would also try to familiarize myself with some street names, and if you like to take the bus, i suggest that you get a bus schedule available at any vancouver public library. you can also get faresavers from Safeway. Its really handy to have around if you run out of change.

another thing i would do is search up apartments or houses that you can rent/ buy.

if you wanna make new friends in vancouver to help you get started i suggest that you sign up to volunteer. you could go to Science World, Vancouver Aquarium, or other places. just make sure that you search it up ahead of time, there is only an opportunity to sign up two times a year.
