There are many things that are considered rude or impolite in Canada, and it is pretty similar in many countries. A few examples of what I find rude as a Canadian:
1) Someone talking so loud that they disrupt others in a public spot.
2) Using your cell phone or letting it ring loudly in a restaurant / coffeeshop / bookstore / library.
3) Spitting, burping loudly, or intentionally passing gas in public.
Besides those, the normal etiquette rules apply, such as holding the door for another person, giving up your seat on a bus for the elderly or a pergnant woman, saying thank you when the waiter fills your glass of water, not throwing your trash on the ground or out the car window. |

Here is a song that you can listen to. It will help you understand our behaviour so you can copy us. It's "Forgive Us, We're Canadian" by the Arrogant Worms. Listen to them, you will be glad you did!
We always say we're sorry,
We like to stand in line,
When you ask us how we're doin' we alway say:
"Just fine!"
[CHORUS]
Forgive us we're Canadian
We try hard to be nice,
You too can be Canadian if you follow this advice.
[END CHORUS]
We disagree on everything
But we try to be polite
And we don't believe in violence,
Except on Hockey Night!
We've adopted European ways
Replacing yards with meters
But we still must ask the question
"How many miles in a liter?"
[CHORUS]
We can talk for hours on end about the Constitution,
Which is dry as toast, but sure as heck
Beats war and revolution
We don't much like to wave the flag
We find patriotism shocking,
So we celebrate our Canada Day
By going cross-border shopping!
[CHORUS]
We know how to dress for winter,
We're not afraid of snow,
And we love our country quietly,
And hope Quebec won't go...
Forgive us we're Canadian,
Some might think us bland,
But there's no where that we'd rather live...
Than this vast and frozen land! |

Just the regular stuff --- being loud, obnoxious, not saying please, not saying thank you...oh and hold doors for people...
Just be friendly and considerate of others, respect people and their feelings. KILL EM WITH KINDNESS! :) |

I would say act as you would act where you live, treat people the way you like to be treated. We act the same way everyone else acts, we do not do anything differently.
We try to be friendly, respectful, courteous, as does any other citizen from any country in the world! Just be yourself, and remember the things your Parents taught you about respect, manners etc and you will be fine |

What really angers a lot of Canadians is seeing people littering. We have a lot of respect for our land and really appreciate it when we see others putting their trash in a garbage can. A lot of cities have garbage and recycling bins located in open public places so there is no excuse for trashing up the place.
Another behaviour that we do not like is the wholesale and open theft of shopping carts from parking lots. Some people just seem to think that they can take their laden cart all the way home and abandoning it at the end of their driveway. Now some stores have locking wheels to prevent this kind of thing but some places don't yet. |

Accusing them of being American.
Accusing them of being from Toronto.
Accusing them of being from Quebec.
...You get the idea. |

Hey, where are you from?
Canadians are more on the polite side (it comes from our respectable English and French heritage?). What we (I) find rude: Chewing with your mouth open, being loud in public places, disrespecting store clerks, OH, and don't forget... making fun of our accent.... |
