LEGALLY haha. I have known them for eleven years. I live in New York and I went to Canada last year with them and we almost didn't make it across because I was travelling with another family without my parents and the border guards had to ask at least 7 questions about myself & how I knew everyone just to make sure.
We're going again this year and want to avoid a similar incident. I'm bringing a notarized note from my parents and my birth certificate. I have a school picture ID but not driver's permit or license.
Will all this and just a simple school ID be enough?

I can't get a passport because we're leaving in 2 weeks and as far as I know it takes months to get passports |

You will need the letter from your parents, absolutely. Bring a birth certificate and the school ID.
Be sure that they have the letter notarized (lawyer or notary public).
I recently took my son on a trip to Cuba, and on the way back, I had to have that letter showing that I had full custody and his dad has no involvement. It was signed by a lawyer, but not stamped, and they even gave me a hard time over that. And this is my own son, who has the same last name as me!
So make sure you have that letter. Signed by BOTH your parents, and notarized. |

You should be fine...,passports are NOT needed for Land travel yet. That notarized letter signed by your parents is very important. |

At this time you still don't need a passport however you should have one. If you don't have time to get a passport, your birth certificate and photo Id are required. Also a letter from your parents stating that they give full permission to the other family to take you across the border will not hurt as well. |

You have it all taken care of. As a minor under the age of 18 the only ID you need is a birth certificate when using a land crossing. Plus you need that letter from your parents. But bring your school ID along as well just because.
Passport requirements for all travellers has been postponed again, so you wont need that. |

A notarized letter from your parents giving permission for you to travel is a good start - but your school picture isn't going to be good enough. Why not get a passport? |

This will be good! I'm from Canada, and you do not need a passport to enter this country by vehicle. A signed note from your parents is also great. When my cousin travelled with us into the states, she brought a note. After looking at her birth certificate and students card, the border guard asked us if she had a note, so luckily we brought one. He looked pleased. |
