The Passport requirement was extended until 2008 or later I believe . Do call the INS Your birth certificate or Naturalization Paper, and or Your Drivers License should do. And do not carry any firearms . Nice country up there, I have visited the Pacific North West, Take your time and enjoy. |

Not until 2008 - but your problem will not be getting in to Canada - you can do that with two pieces of picture ID or one piece of picture ID and a birth certificate. Your problem will be getting back into the US, because THEY are the ones who are making all the rules and stipulations about entering the US. |

You don't need a passport until 2008 to go into Canada, but you will need your birth certificate and may be asked for it on both sides of the border. You will not be allowed back into the U. S. without it. US customs can be a real pain in the neck with out the proper forms of ID, although they are not consistant about what they require for ID to gain entry back into the U.S., but you must be prepaired incase asked. |

I drive this stretch so often, i can do it with my eyes closed, but i won't. You'll need a birth certificate until Jan 1, 2008. Be prepared for a bottle jam in Everett. Best time to go is mid-week, very early (- 7:00 a.m.) or very late (9:00 p.m +). Anytime after Burlington, (there's a Costco there if you want to gas up, which you'll definitely want to do before you get into Canada), listen to the radio (1130 AM) for the border traffic report. It'll play every ten minutes on the one (7:01, 7:11, 7:21, etc.) and usually tells you the border waits at Peace Arch (the end stop of the I-5) and the truck crossing (Exit 274 or 276, I think). Anyone can use the truck crossing, but trucks cannot use Peace Arch. This radio tip has saved me up to an hour's wait. The actual drive time is less than 2.5 hours (go the speed limit; there are cops all the time) plus border traffic. Bring your documents. Lock your car and use the alarm if you've got one. Have a great trip :) |

In order to enter Canada and U are a US Citizen U will need a proof of US Citizenship etc birth certificate also a photo id. A drivers liscense can be used as photo id but not as proof of US Citizenship. A passport is not necessary to get into Canada . However on your return to the US you will need a passport as of January. |

Yes you will, but if you've applied for one and still haven't gotten it, I think there may be a receipt you can get from the State Department that would enable you to cross in lieu of your passport (temporarily). Go to http://travel.state.gov for more info |
