If you are driving she will not need a passport. A certified copy of her birth certificate will be enough. If you are flying she will need a passport. If your child's father is named on her birth certificate but will not be travelling with you, you should probably also have a letter from him agreeing to her leaving the country. Border officials on both sides are very careful about minors crossing the border when both parents are not present. This link has the information you need. Best of luck.

Are you in the U.S.now? If you plan to fly to Canada, you will both need a passport. See site below for info on how to apply for a Canadianpassport foryour daughter. Also, I don't know about Canadians, but when an American citizen has a child while in a foreign country, she must register the birth at the nearest American embassy to assure that the chld has American citizenship. You should probably check with the Canadian embassy and see if you should register her birth there.

Chaco
Unfortunately yes, whatever age she may be, she would definitely be needing a passport especially if you are now residing in another country. Go to your nearest Canadian Embassy to apply for your daughter.

yes.... i used to work for a company that took pasport photos and any person trying to go out or into a different counrty needs to have a passport no matter the age.... it is really stupid for children that young but it is the law.

Depends on where she was born??? Was she born outside of Canada?

Caution THIS IS SPARTA!
if she was born in america yes you will need one for her

Jeff H
It depends on where you are and where your child was born. If you are a resident in the US you will not require a passport for your child. A birth certificate is required along with a certified letter from the other parent allowing you to take your child to Canada. If you are planning on claiming Canadian citizenship for your daughter you can contact the nearest Canadian Consulate or the Embassy for information on the procedures. If you are just visiting then the birth certificate/lettr of authorization will be sufficient. Please note that if the father is not identified on the birth certificate you may not require the letter but check with Canadian Immigration first. You should also check with US authorities as well for the return trip. If you are returning permanently to Canada then you only need to worry about Canadian requirements of course. If you have legal custody include the custody papers with your ID.

I don't think so. Contact a local Access Centre, or Passport Centre.

I think she fall in the dual residence category.

Ed
You should probably call someone about that.

She'll thank you for the dual citizenship someday.
