I am an English speaker in Montreal, does anyone know of places where knowing french is not a necessity? |
Hey people ^^. I only speak English and I live in Montreal. I am working in a restaurant right now, but the people there are all psycho and I really need to leave! I was wondering if anyone knew of ANY places that take English speaking (non-bilingual) workers. It can be in any field! Please help. I need to leave my job ASAP! Thanks! |

Well, your best bet would be to try Westmount (or maaaybe the Plateau, but unlikely) if you want to keep working as a waitress... anywhere else is really going to require at least moderate French.
Otherwise, your only option is to switch job-types. Waitresses (or hostesses, I'm assuming you're doing one or the other) are dealing most closely with the public, so they really need to be bilingual. It's easier to get English-only jobs in certain offices (check Craigslist - Saint Laurent and Chabanel might have, but it's far), or in more menial jobs. Nightshifts are another option, grocery stores are another. |

Try to find a data entry job in an office. Most offices have many English speaking employees, because they have to deal with customers outside of Quebec and therefor English is an absolute necessity.
Also try to get an office job in one of the English schools. If you could learn basic French then you'll have no problems.
Just stay away from customer service, reception and retail!
Good luck |

You can get a telemarketing job in Montreal where they call outside of the province. If you can type really fast and accurate, call Nordia, no selling but a phone job. Good luck. |

The most prodominantly english-speaking area is montreal is the west island, where I live.
Pointe-Claire, Beaconsfield, and Saint-Anne-De-Bellevue, and most of Dorval, and some of western Lachine, are all english-speaking places.
I can go around in Pointe-Claire without ever having to say or understand a word of French. All the restaurants and malls are almost exclusively english.
Just for the record, I'm completely bilingual, but English is my first language. |

three answers. One: leave Montreal, come to Toronto.
two: Just Speak English, they should understand.
three: Learn french in your spare time, you know, take classes, until you learn enough, just speak english |
