If you are coming from the US, gas is much more expensive, and probably alcohol, but most things are not that different. If you are coming from Europe, things are considerably cheaper in Canada.

It depends on where you are coming from.
If you are coming from the US, "stuff" is more expensive in Canada.
If you are coming from the UK or the EU it isn't that bad.

We live in England and took a trip to Ontario in August last year.We found everything slightley cheaper, but the pound was in our favour, at $2.30 to the £. A meal for four cost $50 in most restaraunts we visited and the fast food eateries were around 20% less than over here. The public transport was a lot cheaper than over here too. We went to Canadas wonderland and payed £65 for 4 of us. we found the refreshments inside the park were the same as anywhere else and we were'nt ripped off at all.

For the most part similar to the US. Cigarettes, booze and gas are move heavily taxed so are more expensive.

Depends where you're coming froom. If you're coming from the US its more expensive...but not too much.

Where are you coming from? That would have helped a lot. I was in the US for most of last year and was shocked, a lot, while shopping. Holy cheap, groceries and produce, 10 for a buck? You won't find that here. The cost of living is definately higher in Canada. Food, gas, booze, are way more. Clothing is a joke compared to the USA. Much more expensive, even with the strong dollar. We have seen zero price recuctions from the dollar, price gouging really.

for the most part, yes. I work in canada and live in the usa. gas, booze, and cigarettes are more expensive.. Most canadians cross customs to get gas because it is so much cheaper. And i know walmart in canada is more expensive thant the states because i have to shop at walmart for things i can't find in my hometown, and they are more expensive than the states, for instance, groceries, cosmetics, etc.

Canada is one of the world's most expensive countries to live in. But if you know where to shop, you can save several dollars. Food is pretty expensive in Canada, especially fresh produce during the winter months.

Transportation between cities is also costly as many cities here are hundreds of kilometers apart. Fuel is more expensive than in the US but cheaper than in Europe or Australia. Booze and Cigs are very expensive as a result of high taxation.

Hotels range from budget to deluxe so depending on your price range you can find anything from $100 and up.

it also depends on where you're visiting in canada... prices vary from province to province, and they may vary from state to state as well...
i live in ontario between sarnia and windsor, and when i go to port huron, our gas is normally cheaper or around the same price. everything else is generally higher priced in ontario (including cigarettes, alcohol, food, clothes) - this is why, especially with the dollar the way it is - so many canadians are crossing the border to do their shopping.
you also have to look at the exchange - which, although almost at par (cdn still worth a few pennies more, though), still makes a difference.
general rule of thumb - with your dollar almost at par with ours, expect to spend a little more when you visit.
have a great trip!
