I suggest Jack in the Box.
Their Ultimate Cheeseburger, or the Grilled Sourdough burger, are both supurb. Make sure to get the seasoned curly fries, they're also quite good.
I also recommend the oreo cookie milkshake.
Your girlfriend will surely appreciate your frugality, as well. |

Restaurant city? At one time T.O. had one seat for every person in the city. Chinese food ? Better than SFO. Ask any cabbie. Cruisin'? go to College street, Saturday afternoon? Queen west, and follow your nose. If it's busy it's probably OK. I've eaten more than 2000 (thousand) meals in Restaurants in T.O. What's best today may change tomorrow. Example Pappas on the Danforth. |

360 at the top of the CN Tower is quite spectacular; Canyon Creek Chophouse on Front St. is good; Epic in the Royal York hotel is my favorite. I hear that Canoe and Jump are very good as well, although I've never been to either one. Really, just about anyplace you pick downtown will be very good. I've mentioned only a couple of the really good one's I've been to. Hope this helps. |

I don't know if they're still there, but three years ago, I enjoyed the Old Spaghetti Factory on The Esplanade (parallel to Front Street, East of Yonge) and The Green Mango (on Yonge and Bloor, last I checked). It's also summertime, so there's lots of places to eat along the waterfront. |

Somewhat more upscale: Perigee, Canoe, or Splendido.
There is also JK Wine Bar - the food is good, but maybe not at quite the same level as the others. It is, however, rather fun. I like the atmosphere, the staff are wonderful, and it is a menu of small dishes. So you order several small plates to make a meal. You can stagger your orders (start with 2 or three plates, then order 2 or 3 more, etc) so you won't end up ordering too much, or having too many things on the table at once. There are recommended wine pairings for every dish, and you can order as little as half a glass at a time. Anyhow, it might be a good place for dinner with your girlfriend - sharing food always seems to make a meal more intimate. |

Crush Wine Bar is great at King & Spadina. ByMark at 66 Wellington St. West is nice. 360 isn't bad - I prefer it for the view rather than the food. Sassafraz on Bloor Street East is very nice. It's a popular spot for movie stars when they're in town. |
