Depends what you like - Stanley park is amazing, walk all the way around the sea wall and the view from the far side is spectacular. While you are there the aquarium is so cool. 4th street has really great, eccentric shopping. Kitsalano in general is fun to walk around. I love Commercial Drive, its' got tons and tons of consignment stores, and the neatest stores ever - a huge mix of different cultures coming together. Avoid gastown, it's a huge waste of time. Granville Island is fun as well. The suspension bridge is a great idea, grouse mountain, amazing golf courses, harbour tours, fantastic food! Eat at Sophie's on 4th - you may have to wait in line but it's well worth it. And there is a place downtown, I don't remember what it's called but run by 2 homosexuals and it is totally famous for that (they also raise tons of $$$ for AIDS awareness) and is fantastic food. Have fun - you'll be in my favorite city ever! |

Vancouver can be damn miserable in October so stick to indoor activities. Check out the Vancouver Art Gallery, in particular the Emily Carr exhibit. The Vancouver Aquarium has some very interesting exhibits and a lot of their money goes to research and conservation work. Go out to the UBC Endowment Lands and go to the Museum of Anthropology in particular. Eat as much sushi as you possibly can. There are not many places where you can get sushi of this quality for these prices. Chinatown and Gastown are kinda cool for souvenirs, just make sure you don't get stuck there at night and you stay in the areas with decorative lamp posts. Commercial Drive is pretty nifty too. See a movie at The Ridge or at Pacifique Cinematique (don't worry, only the name is French).
Do NOT give money to panhandlers. Do NOT go to the downtown east side, in particular Victory Park, Main and Hastings and Pigeon Park after dark. Do NOT go to Storeum, it's a rip off. |

Stanley Park is amazing! (Bigger then NYC's Central Park)
Amsterdam Cafe on Hastings is a nice head shop with sweets for the munchies.
The Cambie Hostel @ Cambie & Cordova is a great bar with young people and if you stand by the jukebox for a little bit someone will ask you if you're shopping (smoke).
The Aquarium in Stanley Park was pretty cool.
I'd recommend taking the ferry from Vancouver to Vancouver Island to visit Victoria.
Granville St. is the main drag where there are a bunch of cool bars, coffee shops, pizza joints, etc.
Don't buy any smoke from the wannabe dealers on the streets, like I said you can get good stuff at The Cambie Hostel.
Gastown is a very cool district.
I'm not sure about skiing in October but Whistler Mountain is a fancy schmancy ski resort if you're into that. |

Check out Stanley Park, The Capillano Suspension bridge, take the gondola up to Grouse mountain- it will be too early to skate on the pond, but the bears and wolves will be there (fenced off area, totally safe). Gastown is okay. If you have time, hop on the ferry and go to Victoria for a day. Check out Granville Island, you could check out a Canuck's game, go to the art gallery. Google tourism vancouver- there are tons of ideas there. |

Many visitors take advantage of Vancouver's beautiful seaside, wide-open spaces and mountain backdrop. Named after Royal Navy captain, George Vancouver, the history of this city, from the cobblestone late-Victorian Gastown, exotic Chinatown and the sleek modern buildings of downtown, is quite evident. The ocean and mountains create a dramatic contrast with downtown's shiny towers of commerce.... More: http://hotels.hotelsbyrating.com/nexres/city_content/citycontent_show.cgi?src=10014527&id=10589 |

Depends on your interests... I would first go to the CN tower, and from there, plot all the coolest looking places I can find from the top. Parks there are really nice, so if you're into that, check it out. Another place is the Hockey Hall of Fame... I can't remember where its at, but it should be in a phone book somewhere. |
