I used to live in Niagara Falls, Canada. It is hard to guess whether or not there will be snow in mid-December. Usually, if there is some, there isn't much. I guess I would recommend taking some boots (they don't need to be skidoo boots or anything that high) just in case there is snow. And have fun! |

I would definitely pack them. Niagara Falls is very near Buffalo, NY, which is notorious for our snow! (Freak October 13th storm closed many schools for the week.) Generally though the paths in the Falls are kept pretty clear. Due to the chill factor near the Falls I would still wear them just to keep you feet warm. Bundle up! It's a beautiful place to visit, I hope you have a great time. |

Um....I read all the answers before me. Are they joking? lol
On the Canadian side, Niagara doesn't get THAT much snow so early, and mid Dec rarely has much on the ground, if any. The best thing for you to bring would be some water resistent hiking shoes. That way, even if it snows, your feet will stay dry (we love to salt things and make lots of wet slush here), but you don't have to clod around in heavy boots.
Unless you are treking through fields or hiking, you can easily wear runners too. We do have sidewalks, and paved roads. So, snow is um...removed?????? lol |

Oh yes. You will need to keep your feet dry. And lots of extras-gloves, scarf, thermals, warm socks, hat heavy coat. And lip protector like chap-stick. Also the sun reflecting off the snow is blinding so bring sun glasses too. Better be prepared. That lake effect snow and wind is a killer. Especially the wind. Cuts right through you. Buffalo already has had their first blizzard and it's only October. On the plus side seeing the falls with the surrounding ice and snow is a phenomenal sight. Try to see it at night too. You'll be in the holiday season. The lights-WOW! Bring along a camera. |

I just moved up here (2 miles to the border) and I can tell you that snow boots will be a big help! I just bought mine. Also, what every one else is saying bring layers! I went to the falls for New Years and that is no joke. LOL Expect slush on your pants, and bring a good camara! It is real beautiful in December with all the Christmas lights and displays! Oh, and go to the casino, Hard Rock and ENJOY!!!! |

Buffalo gets more snow than almost any place on Earth. It won't hurt to have snow boots. |

Yes. Boots, Parka, dog sled, hand warmers, waterproof pants and jacket. An insulated flask with hot rum toddy in it.
Within the past week, the Buffalo, NY area was hit with a two foot deep snow fall. Why would you visit in December. It's usually not even nice in June. |

Yes, but remember to layer because the weather in that region goes up and down. It is quite humid. Wear breathable natural fabrics such as cotton, silk and denim. Bring along thick wool socks. Your extremities can get quite cold on the Falls. Advice about cameras: Use a wide-focus lens, do not fall for the lie about panoramic film, it just cuts off the top and bottom horizontally. Use Fuji film for outdoors, ISO 400 for a bright day and ISO 100 or 200 for the Falls. Use IS0 800 for gloomy day shots or at night and bring along a flash. Check on aperture. |

Buffalo NY, which is a part of Niagra Falls just a few days ago had 22 inches of snow.

Yes, most definetly. They already have snow. Bring everything you could possible need. It's also colder up there because the water by the falls splashs and you can feel the mist it's really cold. When I went in the middle of Aug, I wore a coat and jeans, it was chilly. It's going to be extremly cold when you go. Bundle up! |
