Andy

I am travelling to Canada late January. Will I survive with just these clothes?

waterproof boots, thick jacket, leggings, hat, scarf, sweaters, and thick socks.

Anything else I need aside from the obvious that I did not include on this list? I am not used to cold weather. Thanks

In am in Toronto. It is a bit below freezing here with about 6 inches of snow on the ground. It gets much colder in other parts of Canada. I think you should get some gloves with a lining of some sort.
If you add the gloves to your list, you should be fine as long as you are not going to the far north.

It would probably help if you told us the province, or more specifically, the place you're coming to.

You should be fine.

Ya...Its not that cold right now. It might help if your jacket is water proof though:)

MRS.AHWO!
I think you would be a wrapped up teddy bear! Haha! I think that is really cute, warm, and stylish!

Love,

Charming Girl xoxoxo

Assuming you are not going skiing, snowboarding or skating, yes, that is plenty.

Sorry Isotope...don't mean to contradict you, but if you are planning to enjoy the outdoors....skiing, skating, or toboganning all of the above answers are good but I also like to wear Poly-pro long underwear....it'll keep you good and warm, and if the weather warms up and you are a little overdressed or if you go from outdoors to indoors and back again and begin to perspire the Poly-pro will draw the moisture away from the skin....any good outdoors store or sports store should carry tops and bottoms...but they are a little more expensive than normal long underwear. Hope this helps and enjoy your visit!!!

50F here today in BC interior, you would be a tad over dressed. You didnt say where you were going and if you say Vancouver or the Okanogan or Victoria we are all going to laugh.

We need more information like WHERE you are going?

If you are heading to Northern Canada or Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba or some areas in Ontario you will need a warm jacket and perhaps a toque, sweaters, we wear jeans, and dont wear thick socks as a rule, ordinary socks will do and very few people wear long underwear unless they are going skiing on a very cold day.

I myself wear leather or suede boots, they look nice. I have never seen anyone in moon boots or mukuluks or gum boots unless they live WAY up north in a rural area.

Scarfs are a nice fashion statement, depending on the scarf of course,

You might want to check fashions too before coming, wouldnt want you to look like you are related to the McKenzie brothers would we?

Canada is a very, very big country, and the weather varies great deal in winter from extremely cold to mild. I don't know what part you will be in, but what you listed seems a good start.

My tips, gleaned from a lifetime of living and working in Canada: wool socks, give some thought to longjohns (Helly-Hansen seems to make the best ones) and a parka that will cut the wind. Purchase your parka two or three sizes larger than it needs to be so that you can put layers of clothing, like the fleece jackets and vests, underneath it.

dont taze me bro
wuss... you need all that for a lil bit of cold? hahaha

Gloves mitts, and lots of undershirts so you can LAYER. That's the key to staying warm. Use shirts that "breathe", like cotton. You don't want to be sweating under too much wool or man made materials.Don't just wear one thick woolly sweater, wear an undershirt, a thermal shirt and then another a pull-over topped by a sweater. Go for thin socks and thicker ones on top. You'll be nice and toasty and ready to enjoy winter. Have fun!
