In terms of finding a job in industry (regardless of industry), the best province is probably BC or Alberta. The worst ones will be the Atlantic provinces (Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick).
In terms of quality-of-life, the best provinces for rural living would have to be New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and Ontario. The best for urban living would be Ontario, Quebec, and British Colombia.
In Canada, a "city" must have a minimum population of 5000 people, unlike communities in the US (where every urban area is a city, basically, right down to populations of 100 or less).
In terms of a "crime problem" with Toronto ... it's mostly perception. The visibility of crime is higher, because of the much higher population base. In fact, the crime rate in Toronto is approximately the same (in terms of the total number of crimes committed) as the US cities of Phoenix and Philadelphia ... both of which have populations that are approximately one-fourth of Toronto's. Houston TX has approximately 50 percent more crimes, on a population base almost half of Toronto's. Dallas TX is also about half of Toronto's population, but has almost 60 percent more crimes committed.
The least-safe cities in Canada are Saskatoon and Regina, both in the province of Saskatchewan. The safest three are all in Quebec ... Quebec City, Saguenay, and Trois Rivieres. |

First of all, Crime in Canada is relatively very low compare to other countries record. For Toronto, the crime is not the way its sound, its a typical big and economic city, with a level of social vices. But our govt is doing everything possible to reduce the levelled crime. You wont feel it while staying there anyway.
Every provinces are good to live, I know many provinces which are not economically strong still attract visitors or immigrants by putting a good welfare packages. Toronto is still highly competitive for economical advantages, you are sure of grabbing immediate survival job, while you are still looking for your dream job. Even as a visitor, if you have a work permit, Toronto may be good for you, a lots of fun and tourists. In general most capital cities of all provinces are good to visit, stay and live. Good luck Come to Canada, its a land of milk and honey. I tell you, Canada is good. |

It depends what you want.
Victoria is great but housing is very expensive. There is a lot of work, but most of the jobs do not pay very well.
Vancouver is beautiful, and has a good economy. Housing costs the moon.
Ottawa is fantastic, but housing is very expensive and you have to be able to speak French and English to get a decent job.
Those are the only cities I have lived in, and thus the only ones about which I have useful personal knowledge. |

I live in Ottawa currently and I think Ottawa Ontario is the best place to live. Houses are REALLY pricey but oh well it's worth it. |

There are 5 million people in Toronto and a hundred get murdered each year - that's not that bad. Sure, there are bad areas but the city as a whole is very safe. |

Toronto is a major city and has the crime that every major city has, no different than Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg. For the lowest crime, violent crimes that is, I would have to say Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island would top the list with places like Regina or Saskatoon in Saskatchewan not far behind. Once away from all the major cities, violent crimes tend to drop significantly but if you check stats, they go by per capita and really don't represent how safe or unsafe some areas are. This is a huge country so if you are basing your move on crime alone, you may be disappointed. Crime happens everywhere and even smaller cities are not immune. Add a few more criteria to your question for better answers, such as work, beauty, schools, etc. Crime stats can be misleading. The main reason people say crime in Toronto is so bad is mainly because of the gang activity and the jokes about growing up to become a drug dealer in Toronto if you drop out of school etc. Good luck. |

I live in southwest Ontario. Construction & jobs are booming in this area. I would say between London & Brantford on the 401 is really good. Toronto has alot of crime it seems due to all the different immigrants thrown together there or atleast that's what I think. |
