I am a former chef, and have worked all over Canada, and it is hard to really say which city is best, they all have the qualities, I have lived on both coasts and in Calgary and Edmonton, Winnipeg and all over Ontario.

I spent 9 yrs over a period of 20 years in Toronto while in the Hotel business, Alot depends on what your looking for, all the other citys mentioned are very nice, quieter and have alot going for them, I have found that Toronto can be a bit fast paced, I first went there in 1977 when I started my chef's apprenticeship, and moved back in 1987 was there until the mid 90's and get there every other month.

For a cosmopolitan city with everything you want in food, ethnic culture, entertainment and lifestyle choices and neighbourhoods with unique people then I would say it is your best bet, I liked it in Vancouver, but it was so spread out and hard to get around for alot of things, and all had good transit systems but I can get on in Etobicoke and ride to outer regions of Scarborough for one $2.75 fare, that is a journey of over 20 miles.

If your looking for a short or long term residence, there are furnished places and they are in alot of the great areas.

We here in Toronto say that, and you heard right.

Every nice place in Toronto is expensive to live. People seem to have this impression that Canada is the wonderland...it is the same as everywhere else...it is expensive and hard to get a decent job.

Toronto is not the best nor the worst city in Canada but if you are looking for the nicest people and not too expensive, try the Moncton area of New Brunswick. Toronto is crowded, congested roads, smog in summer, real estate prices are among the highest in the Country. Moncton was just selected as the friendliest city in Canada, homes are affordable, you are a short drive away from some of the best beaches in Canada, if you plan on having kids, French immersion begins in Grade 1 ( if you chose), a local hospital was ranked #1 in . This is a great area with little violent crime and room to grow. Toronto is a nice city, please don't get me wrong but it is all in your priorities and if it is big city living you want, then Toronto is #2 behind Vancouver.

We here in Vancouver don't say that.

I wouldnt agree and I am from Toronto and have lived all
over Canada......
services and amenities are much the same in all the cities...
just more in Toronto due to it being a bigger city
As for people, I would say they are the least friendly
Canadians!! lol Not that I am nasty, but there is a
certain "new york" style hard edge to the people.......
All the other main cities are really friendly except for
Montreal. The east and west vary in style but are both
super friendly.

jesus, why do all these people think that Toronto is such a clean city?? Compare it to other cities in Canada (Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal), and those places are wayyy cleaner. Have you been downtown lately??? If you like to see trash everywhere and love the smell of urine from homeless people in the air, then by all means move to Toronto. If you wanna live somewhere outside the city, choose a place like Vaughn or Richmond Hill.

Toronto is acceptable, but there are many, many other places in Canada that offer a better quality of life - and much lower housing prices too.

Calgary is one of the best cities in Canada.
Progressive, lots of jobs, close to the mountains...

Although I have relatives living in St. Catherine's, Ontario across the lake Ontario from Toronto and about a 90 minute drive, and have been in Toronto several times, I can say much about the city for the nicest people, or for employment, but I do know it is a very clean city. I have been there in the winter and I hated it myself.
What I would suggest is to contact tourism Toronto and ask for brochures on the city and outlaying districts such as Hamilton, etc.
Good luck.

It depends in what you are looking for. I like Toronto because of the crowds, busy streets, skyscrappers...it is very metropolitan. That's why I like it.

Nope, try Oakville......Seriously, it depends on what you are looking for and your present situation, if you're single, or have a family, your interests, etc

I think what you are asking is which part of the Toronto area is best to live in to find a nice neighbourhood, right? Some of the most affordable new homes are in Milton, and just north of there is Georgetown, which is a great place to live. Oakville is the most expensive on the West side of the Greater Toronto area. Hope that helps.
