Vampire Knight

I have some friends who are voting Conservative, should I respect their decision or cut them out?

Now, keep in mind I am a supporter of Stephane Dion and I believe he has a lot more to offer than Harper (regulated capitalism similar to Europe and Japan, strong Environmental policy, and socially liberal) who is nothing more than a clown of Bush (if Harper was PM in 2003 our troops would be in Iraq right now without UN authorization).

I find it appalling that some of my friends who are above 18 are supporting Harper. Should I respect their decision?

You might surprise yourself over the years...and find your outlook and opinions are not the same when you are older. You could of course, cut out of your life everyone who does not agree with you on all subjects...what a mature thing to do! Then you would not be burdened with exposing yourself to other opinions and ideas and could live in your own little isolation with only people exactly like you. You would not be challenged to learn about other ways of doing things, other ways of thinking. If you do not respect the opinions of others, do you expect them to respect your opinions?

thinkingtime
I suggest that you share this question with your friends...

♥Sara
Cutting someone out because of their political opinions would be pretty low. After all, that's all they are...opinions.

Well if you can't muster enough strength to keep them as friends, then you might need to examine yourself more closely. What are you afraid of? With that kind of attitude, you might as well join the Taliban next. They too have a similar extremist viewpoint. Are you for real? God help us all if you are.

He's a clown of Bush or a clone of Bush? haha Either way!

~~Catbird Woman~~
I think you should respect them. I guess I should listen to my own advice!! I mean they do have a choice and if everyone believed like you or like me, then we wouldn't have elections and all that, and it would be VERY boring when everyone would be like me! :)

I find it appalling that you'd vote for dion. I respect your decision though. That's what freedom of choice is all about, dude.

mrsmgr
First of all, you should read Charlie's reply & take it to heart! Did I cut you off just because you seem to be a liberal? No! Will you cut me out just because of my reply? Probably! You show signs of not having a very open mind & if this person is your friend, their political stance shouldn't affect your relationship! If you want to change the world, find a broader forum, & respect your friends as they do you!

pinkpiglet126
Wow. Not much of a loyal friend are you?

Happy
yeah I know what you mean. It now looks like Americans are going to save their country by voting in Obama but too bad Canadians won't save theirs. I think the perception that Canadians have of Dion is similar to what Americans thought of Al Gore, that maybe George Bush was cooler than Al Gore. Well Now Americans now the truth and should have voted in Gore. Even when they had a chance to put this right again, just because John Kerry was someone stoic and not with a dazzling personality they voted in Bush again.

Sigh. Since Canadians pay so much attention to the US, isn't about time they learn from the mistakes that the US has made.

Yes, you should respect every one's opinion, but don't let people make your choice for you. Do you like what Harper and other Conservatives stand up for?

No. You shouldn't respect that friend. Go Toilet Paper his house.

geek_girl22
Its absolutley disgusting to me that anyone would ever vote for liberals or conservative to be honest.... Jack Layton-NDP is the only choice in my opinion BUT...

For some Sick reason the man I love is convinced by Harper... and yes it causes alot of fights amongst us, BUT our country is given free speech and a right to vote for who they feel has their best interest... so for you to judge them sounds like you would rather have a DICTATORSHIPand not a democracy!! Your wrong buddy!

Harper is importing everything American to this country.

i don't know about you, but i'm not sure if i would want to hang out with people stupid enough to support someone who wants to copy ideas from a system that is currently crumbling, so we therefore know it does not work

To each their own....unless they're voting Conservative. j/k

On the one hand, as others have said, everyone has the right to make their own decisions on which party they support, and it's a great way to open ourselves to different ways of looking at the world.

But on the other hand, if your ideologies are really that different, then perhaps you have less in common than will fortify your friendship. If their beliefs are so far right that you can't understand them, and their beliefs go against your own values/beliefs then perhaps it's better to go your own way.

I"m trying to write a balanced response, but I hear ya, I'd bug any of my friends for ever if they told me they voted for Harper. Barf

Caring girl.
You should respect your friends decision and they should respect yours. Agree to disagree.

You should grow a brain and vote conservative.
