Canada is not that far away. You can always fly to UK to see family members or they can visit you.
What are planes for yeh.

jamie

Eduardo
Just go! Canada is much better than the UK! Don´t even think twice. Good luck!

Mike C
Go for it. You'll regret not doing it later in life. + you can always come back if it doesn't work out.

Explorer
welcome to Canada, I am sure you will be very happy here.
As for your family, I would think they would love to come and visit and they are only a phone call away.

I would GO, don't always think about other people, if you do you get no place, think of yourself and the future.............compare Canada with the UK, I have been many times its wonderful.............think about the UK, whats happening........immigrants/ government all to hell/ASBOS gone wrong - should I go on.............I live outside the UK have done for 25 years.............would NEVER go back...........PS think if of all your pals and relatives visiting YOU.......

I would go because this country has had it....make a better life for your children and your childrens children........you could always come back if things dont work out, and would make great holidays for the family you leave behind.

I'd go, just so you can sample life in a different country. If you don't like it you can always return. And think how much your family and friends would love to visit you

I have been working with some ex Brit's for 30 years now, and not one off them has the desire to move back home. They are often asked that question and they say that the last time that they were back for a visit , things were very expensive and crowded for them and that they couldn't wait to return home, as they now call Canada now.

retiredintherockies
You will love it here. I moved 30 years ago & have never looked back. I am off for another visit in a couple of weeks,6 1/2 hours from Ottawa I am back "Home". Give it a try & remember you only live once.

Lifeisgreat!
Are you mad?!! Take the job for crying out loud and stop holding yourself back with all the negative ideas!! You sound like you are only using your family as an excuse not to go, you will regret it later! Make your family proud by doing something adventurous and different to what the rest of them have done!! You go for it GIRL!!

I've had the joy of working in various different countries and I would say to anyone to give it a go! Yes you might miss your family but remember the world has shrunk, you can fly anywhere at anytime! So you can always visit home and the family can always visit you. Life is too short to not try new things, don't live in regret live in the moment! And Good luck!

I would jump at the chance to leave the UK and live abroad. At the end of the day, if you don't like it you can move back. Plus with the wonders of technology, your family will only be an e-mail or telephone call away. Life is too short!!

i live in canada in Calgary Alberta to be exact and well its the same as the states so if you like the states youll like canada, so yes do it and email me if you want to hook up :)

Stephen M
maybe need more information. Do you want to go to Canada or do you just feel obliged because the opportunity is there? If it is something you really want to do then you should go for it, i'm sure your family can come out to you and you can come back for holidays.

If you don't you might regret it, so go for it and if it doesn't work out you can always come back again

I emigrated from the UK to Canada 22 years ago now. I very definitely missed my family and friends for the first couple of years after I left the UK but, as other people have said, there are telephones and the Internet to keep in touch.
I visited the UK after being here a couple of years and decided then that I could never move back there. Life here in Canada is so much better. More room (if you're never been here then you likely cannot imagine the shear size of the country), more jobs and no Big Brother state with high crime and violence like the UK seems to have now.
You don't say how this opportunity has come about or how far along you are with immigration procedures (which can take several years) so the whole decision could be a mute point. All I can really tell you is that it really is an amazing chance for you to live a whole different life style. Talk it over with your family. I'm sure they will want you to do what is best for you. Sometimes you have to think about your own best interests and future.

justice for the 96.
do it do it do it do it do it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nomi
i will suggest you not to go abroad unless you really need it u will miss you family and friends and your homeland but if you dont have good work and study oppunities in you area then you should go abroad

Depends where to in Canada, and where from in the UK. If I went back to Canada I could never live anywhere outside Montreal or Vancouver. I'm sure some places in Canada will make you feel more at home than others. And an airplane trip from Mtl to London takes only 6 hours, whereas it can take up to twice as long if you're travelling from BC. glasgow is another 2 hour flight. But in any case I would just go for it and assess the situation later. It normally takes 3 years before you can formally emigrate so you can always change your mind when you get there, can't you?

I came to Canada many years ago and settled in Southern Ontario. I missed my family too, but I told myself that I was going to give it one year here before I would allow myself to go back. By the end of the first year I had made friends and settled in nicely.

My mother is now 80 and still comes here to visit me each yea, except for the years that I go there to see her. Often she brings a friend and they stay for a month or so, and I know she has seen a lot of the world that she wouldn't have if I had not lived here.

You can read my story at http://www.discover-southern-ontario.com/about-us.html There is also information on this site about many of the towns and villages in this area, information on the cost of housing, the nature and wildlife of this area.

One of the reasons I love living here is there is so much room, due to the fact that the population density is so low.

Here in Ontario there are 36 people per square mile - England has 976 people per square mile!

Good Luck making your decision, I know for me it was a good one and this has been a great place to raise my family.

Women find it tough for that very reason. The internet is an excellent way to stay in contact. But still no matter what the spin on it, Canada is still far away with a different culture, with a different lifestyle.

In this one category the first instinct, not a barrage of facts is always the best answer. If you balked then don't go.

However, It may be a good idea to travel to Canada first for a couple of weeks to find out. Its a big country. You didn't say what part of Canada. Unlike England its huge and with different cities.

If you did an actual test trip. Like one or two weeks then you would get to know if you like it or not. Its expensive but not as much as if you committed to living here.
