I live in Ontario and even I hate going to Quebec. French are very ignorant unless you happen to speak french.

I also had a similar experience. The French also seemed arrogant.

Tmladenka, what a great ans u gave!! It was not meant for all the Americans, but for those who are sooo caught up in their own 'Little Americanised World' to realise that they should have a closer look at their own history and culture, before critising other's culture without mincing their words!! As they say, be good, to receive good! Blessings!

as a western canadian i totally agree, they think there better than the rest of canada, but there actually a province of a----holes,,why do you think the west wants them to seperate,,do you want them ???? FREE...lol....

I doubt the Québecois are very rude. All the ones I know are extremely nice, outgoing people, who shower daily. They have a much greater appreciation for culture than most Americans, and are very proud of being French Canadian, and are definitely not jealous of Americans. They laugh at your culture-less wasteland you call a country. By the sound of what you're saying, I doubt you've ever met a single French Canadian, or ever been to Québec. If you have been to Québec, maybe they just didn't like you because you were some obnoxious American telling them how great the US of A is - trust me, no-one wants to here that in their own Country. Maybe you found the English Canadians nicer, because unlike the French, they won't say things to your face, but instead laugh at you when you leave. You're just some arrogant American you doesn't know anything about any other culture, so you spew out generic stereotypes. Get a life loser.

French Canadians can be rude although there are many nice ones. You have to remember that many don't like English speakers because they want Quebec to seperate from Canada. They feel that the province should be ALL French and many times when you speak to them in English, they get offended. Don't take this personally, all politics. The people in Montreal are Beautiful however.

Nothing like stereotyping a whole province full of people, eh?

Maybe, as suggested above, you should review your own behaviour to ferret out the reason why you were, as you say, treated so rudely. It seems to me (my own stereotype, I know) that many Americans often fail to look inward and do a good self-critique from time to time. Your nation's public profile would benefit greatly from a little humility.

SFdude
There's still a sentiment among French-Canadians that the Dominion under the British Monarchy has not worked, and it's time for Quebec to leave. So they're not happy with the political arrangement, and that means they don't see any reason to be nice to English speakers.

As for hostility toward Americans specifically...most Canadians - English or French - are not very fond of the United States right now. After years of bullying from the administration, it comes as no surprise (U.S. warships often enter Canadian waters without permission, U.S. Customs and Immigration have taken over half of Canada's largest airports for "security reasons", Washington's meddling in internal Canadian politics and refusal to abide by WTO rulings on lumber are not appreciated either).

The difference is the English are too polite to make a big deal out of it in public. Whereas the French tend to dish out criticism very directly and loudly. It's a cultural and socialization issue.

I think that french people think they are very intelligent and cultural persons and they think that the other people are inferior them.
