The Metis Rebellion, The October Crisis in Quebec, The Canadian Railroad & it's impact on the country, The Ocean Ranger Capsizing.

Could you do something like The Group of Seven or the Lucy Maud Montgomery and Anne Of Green Gables?

How about Joey Smallwood and the Referendums that brought Newfoundland into confederation with very small majority of votes.

Or Tommy Douglas and Medicare.

why don't you do canadian crimes and how it's evolved over the years? you can pick a bunch of interesting crimes (such as murders) and write about them. or... you can write about hockey. or canadian architecture. or canadian fashion, (each fashion era, and state/describe the differences in fashion from 1800's to now).

How about - Laura Secord or a war hero I bet you never heard of by the name of Leonard Birchall better known as the Saviour of Ceylon. Mr Birchall came from my hometown. Another might be the sinking of the Empress of Ireland off Rimouski Quebec. I believe the loss of life was greater than the Titanic

I would do it on the battle of abraham between the french in the english in the 1700s, it was all about the british being outnumbered even losing to the french but the reign of england still gave them the jurisdiction over the lands, a bloody war is always fun!

My favorite example of pure Canadian chutzpah would have to be a fellow that actually mapped Canada in less time alone in a canoe than the Lewis and Clark expedition is rumored to have taken. He even invented the instruments to do it with.

But I'd imagine it's done to death...

Second on the list is the Franklin Expedition.

But also done to death...

Aviation in Canada has been strangely absent of merit...

I mean in industrial terms, historically.

I mean there have been true stories of people crashing in the North in an early Focker and building their own propeller out of moose hides and cabin seasoned woods laminated together with the glue made from said hides... not to save themselves mind you but the plane... they got out and went back... but their creditors were less than pleased.

Aviation, however, did have one utterly forgotten thing happen in Canada. That of course would be the Self ridge airplane. It was a glider ~ a towed glider, but of course too interesting to miss.

Literally it occupies an utterly unique classification in terms of aircraft type. It's a sort of airplane Rube Goldburge would have fallen completely for (Rube was known for his unique inventions). The plane was built with not one two or three wings but quite a few more. And unlike other aircraft wth like structures his flew.

Some think it is the safest type of aircraft ever designed, because it simply cannot crash too much faster than at airspeed what with it's enormous drag coeficient.

maybe the great flag debate. Something know one ever thinks about anymore as its so integral to our country But
until 1965 Canada used the same flag as Britain, the Union Jack. With a lot of angst, argument and bullying the all- Canada Maple Leaf brought in. The flag is probably one of Canada's best known symbols, it is all-Canadian and there is a lot of stuff on it around so.....

you can get your bearings on that at wikepedia link but would expand your research a bit beyond that

Following the attack by Japan on Pearl Harbor in late 1941, and following the US's example, the Canadian government ordered the internment of all japanese and japanese-canadian people on the west coast, fearing attacks or spying by those sympathetic to Japan. Thousands of innocent people, many Canadian citizens and some whose families has been in Canada for three generations or more, were arrested, had their property seized
