I need a job in alberta? |
I don't know if anyone can help me, I am a 19 year old male that is so tight for money in the eastern Canada area. Minimum wage here is 8hr. I could be making 20hr doing the same thing out west. I can hardly afford anything for myself. I need a job that will fly me out there and supply me food and a room until I get get back on my feet. I have been looking for weeks and have found nothing and I know there is lots out there. Can anyone send me in the right direction, and yes I have tried to Canadian Job Bank... |

You say you could be making 20hr doing "the same thing" out west. How do you know? Same thing as what? Minimum wage in Alberta is not $20/hour. Jobs at 12/14.00/hr are relatively easy to find but that's a long way from 20/hr. And keep in mind that public transit in Calgary and Edmonton is not like Toronto and Montreal. Most people here find a car is a necessity. |

Nobody is going to spend $2,000 flying an untrained person out to Alberta and giving them a room. Rooms go for $800 a month and up.
Sure, the wages are higher, but housing is even worse AND you can't sleep outdoors in the winter in your car like you can out East, not if you want to survive. |

It might be wiser to save some money and look for a few other people who are interested in going West to look for work. It will be cheaper if you can share driving expenses and share a room when you get there. |

you should try kijiji.ca for edmonton...
depend on what you do if you get paid 8/hr..you probably work at mcdonalds or something like that..here you can make some money as a bar attender or waiter at arestaurant..thepay is the same or more but he tips are big..also if you worked at a hotel..the pay is around 10-12/hr..
maybe you should borrow some money and find a place to live first..and then look for a job..no one will pay for your moving expenses if unless you are a manager or foreman...with lots of experience...

Do some research on the different oil companies in Alberta. They are the most likely to relocate you. Some companies hire employees through recruiting agencies, so check out ManPower and others like it. Check out some of these websites.

What can you do? What are your skills? There is big demand for people who can do pipeline welding, as long as you do not mind doing it outdoors at 50 below.
Also, experienced construction workers for building the tar sands plants. Can you do steel erection, pipe fitting or other skilled construction work. General laborers are not needed as Alberta has plenty of unskilled young people for that.
And they don't fly you out there and provide room and meals unless you are highly skilled.
And no one seems to ever get a job at the Canada Job Bank.
I never did. |

Are you even aware of the downturn in the economy? Time was, if you had a pulse you could head out to Alberta and pick up a job with no skills, experience or education. It isn't like that anymore. There isn't lots out there...
...not anymore...
If I were you, I'd go back to school and get an education. If you are in a tight personal bind, don't see welfare as a defeat. |

why would a company fly you out to Alberta?
Your 19 and if your working min.wage jobs I'm sure you have very little skills.
First, Safe your money.
Take a greyhound bus to Edmonton. (probably takes about 5 days)
Get a job at Tim Hortons that pays $14/hr
Then pay your $1000 rent and food
You really aren't going to save anything. |
