I need help from Canada on gas prices!? |
I looked online to see waht the price of gas is in Montreal QC and it said 116.9-What would that be in USD dollars? It can't be $116 so is it $1.16 9/10 I'm a little confused and will be traveling there in a few weeks! Thanks for your help! |

Its because our prices are in Litres and not gallons. There are soemthing like 4.55 litres in a gallon so if you do the math from there.
The gas in montral then would be $5.27/gallon Canadian so that gives you a bit of a break as Canadian dollar is at $90 rright now. So budget $5.20 per gallon US dollars .
Our roads are also in kilometers not miles
so 1 mile = 1.6 kilometers (or about 1 1/2 kilometers).
And dont drive 80 miles per hour in an 80 km/ hr zone or there will be a huge fine!!
110km/hr = 65
100 km/hr = 60
80km = 50 mph
50km = 30 kph
Other than that most of our traffic rules and such are the same as US.
Colours should be nice this time of year |

Gas prices here are expressed in cents per litre. When you see "116.9" it means 116.9 cents, or $1.169 for one litre of gasoline. The dollar's at parity now so once you do the conversions with 0.26417205 US gallons (not imperial gallons, they're different people!) in a litre, it becomes...
*drom roll*
about $4.26 per US gallon
Convert already!! It's just Liberia, Myanmar, and america that don't use the metric system out of the entrie world!!! |

Since you're used to figuring your gas in US gallons, it will help you to know that a US gallon is 3.79 litres. An Imperial gallon, which is what we used in Canada until we went metric, is 4.55 litres. So multiply the Canadian per litre price by 3.79, allow for the dollar exchange rate, and you'll know how much a US gallon of gas will cost you in Canada. Prices are going to change, though. News today says that some parts of Ontario are seeing gas prices below $1.00/litre right now. |

Karen gave you the best answer, but to make it nice and simple for you, the easiest way to remember gas prices in Canada versus USA is to multiply by 4 and that will give you a rough estimate of the costs.
If gas is at $1.16 and 9/10 per litre, you would be paying $4.67 per gallon, give or take a few cents.
Our small cars have 43 litre tanks (a little less than 12 gallons) and so filling up at these prices when your "need gas" light goes on is about CAD$40-45. At least that's the cost for me driving an older Saturn.
And since we are almost all metric up here, remember that speeds are measured in kilometres per hour (100 = 60mph) our distances are also in metres or kms (25 miles = 40km), and our temperatures are in celsius (10C = 50F)

Canadian gas is sold by the litre. There are roughly four litres to a gallon (that's not quite accurate but it's close enough for a rough guide) so if you multiply the cost of a litre of gas by four, you have the rough equivalent of how much a gallon of gas would cost. You also have to take into consideration the exchange rate between American and US currency. In general, gas is cheaper in the US. |

The Canadian dollar fell today to 90 cents. So 1.16 would be about 1.08 USD. Then multiply by 3.8 for the conversion from litres to gallons and you get about 4.10 per gallon USD. |

remember our our speed is in kilometres per hour A kilometer is six tenths of a mile 100 kmh is 60 mph |
