First things first go to the local Canadian Embassy/consulate and get advice there. Both you and your wife will have to meet certain requirements before you can live in Canada. I have no idea about the business end as I just moved here two months agao.

Hi!

A friend of mine is going though the process at the moment. It has taken her 18 months so far, and she is nowhere near being accepted.

She has had to jump through hundreds of loops!!

Also, the Canadians are only interested if you have a trade or certain job title.

Anyway, you've got to start sometime haven't you, so there's no time like the present.

She contacted the Canadian Embassy in London, and they sent her the relevant info pack.

Hope this helps!!

Best of luck by the way!

You could perhaps try the Canadian and UK Embassay's to see if they could help - perhaps have a look at their websites for more information or give them a call to enquire. Good luck with the move!

Hi! My husband and I live in the UK and we just got our skilled worker visas for Canada in August.
There are different types of visas which you can apply for, and they vary in processing times. Our visas were issued two and a half years after our acknowledgement card was received (and that was only sent to us 3 months after applying). I believe the processing times are even longer at the moment. But thats for a skilled worker, and you could consider a provincial nominee visa or I think there is another visa for entrepreneurs who intend to start up their own business.
The website to start with is www.canada.org.uk This website will guide you through the visa requirements and give you an idea as to the processing times. All the application forms and everything you need is on this website. The skilled worker visa is assessed on a points basis, so firstly you will need to look at whether you have enough points to qualify. It sounds complex, but it's not too bad really.
The internet is full of immigration lawyers who are only too willing to take your money in order to handle your application. We didn't use one as the website clearly sets out what is required. The hardest thing about the application process is the waiting. Don't expect to receive any communication from them once they have sent you the acknowledgement card, and do remember to keep them up to date on changes in your circumstances (ie birth of a child or change of address etc). They contacted us again after 2 years about the medicals, and then they issued the visas after they were satisfied that we were healthy!
Also, bear in mind that the application itself is expensive as well as time consuming. There are hidden costs on top of the fee. You'll need police clearance certs from every country you have lived in since you were 18, and some countries charge you for that, there will be endless quantities of passport photos required, and the medicals at the end (our medicals cost almost £500 for my husband, myself and our 10 month old daughter)!
My best advise would be to be sure that this is what you want before you apply. The reason being that the waiting plays on your mind a bit...you try not to let it, but you find yourself making decisions based on 'if we go to Canada'. Your life enters a semi state of limbo sort of....hard to explain really.
Best of luck with your plans...I hope this helps.

Why would you want to leave the UK. I live in Canada and have visited the UK in the past. I would retire there if I could. It has so much to offer and is so close to the world. Travel is cheap in Europe as well. Having said that, I would start with Canada Immigration. There may be provisions for the self employed. Not knowing your skills makes it difficult to say what kind of business would be good, but I do know that Western Canada is absolutely starving for trades and truckers.

Good luck...if you want a better entrepeneurial environment, try the U.S. Canada is a great country, but the business climate pales in comparison to the U.S.

If your heart is set on Canada, try IT consulting or web publishing, or something where you can work from home.

I think Canadians allow British in, still. Place to start is at a Consulate or Consular Affairs and make certain that you and your family will be permitted to move there, then theres the Visa, passport, and application for citizenship questions.
You can have Dual Citizenship with parts of Canada and the UK.
As far as a Business, do what you do best. Is your business working in UK. if so, do that. if not, you can build American Cars in Canada.
I have no idea, but thats my guess.

Hi
I am a Canadian living in England, my husband is English. We are planning to move back to Canada next year. Immigration laws are quite strict in Canada so you should really plan ahead. If you are going to start a business that will give you an advantage, plus the more money you have saved to show them the better. Essentially the Canadian government want people to contribute to the country and not sap it.

not my real name
why?

Best place in Canada is Calgary Alberta for businessmen,Investors and job seekers. If you like to invest money Best thing is invest in real states.Right now Calgary is booming city and every month more than 20,000 people migrate to Calgary. That's mean you have more ways to start your business.

Canada is a great country and has so many wonderful places there but from my observations, the best place to go to would be the United States. I'm originally from Canada, but I moved down here with my parents several years ago (My dad's company moved down here).

I've noticed that there is much more opportunities in the US than Canada. Think about it. In Canada you have 4 major cities for business. Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary. All of those cities are spread apart by a great distance. In the US you have tons of cities with opportunities. Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Buffalo, and Chicago, are all less than an 8 hour drive on the interstate from each other, and those cities make up just a small part of the nothern states. All of those US cities I listed are just a small number of major cities in the US with opportunities for jobs and business, there is the south, the west coast and east coast too!

I'm sure some Canadians might brag about the free healthcare in Canada, and it is good at times, but often the healthcare system in Canada gets backed up with long wait times to get anything done. Here in the US it's all private health care, but most people have insurance and insurance isn't all that bad.

The biggest thing to consider is the Canadian tax. Canadians have very high tax (which often pays for the free healthcare, and also there is a smaller population which = higher taxes). Business in Canada get taxed high. In the US there is low taxes on families and business and in Canada, there are laws about the French and English, so your business may need services in French and English.

I guess this may offend some Canadians since many business’s have moved down to the US, but I'm just giving you my view on the matter. Hopefully this helps you!

I AM CANADIAN!!
What are these AMERICANS talking about?? It's better in America?? Why?? Well let's see- Over populated means more trouble. Less taxes means you have to pay for Health care. Higher paying jobs again means you have to pay for hospital care.

Canada more land, less population means more space and less problems. Higher taxes with free health care and hospital care. No problems with the world issues cause we put our money back into our own people!! We Canadians mind our own business and don't cause trouble. We help the world when in need.

Don't get me wrong, I like American people but I don't like their ways in the government.

Go to the Canadian consulate and inquire about moving to Canada. Lots of opportunities here in business. Take your pick Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver all booming cities.

Note to Americans- ONLY the province of Quebec is first language French, in Canada. All other provinces, it is English.
