What to do?

Only been via Canada. I went with my wife and children to Toronto, which is a couple of hours drive from Niagara. We took a day trip to Niagara falls, the day trip was nice, but I'd recommend that you hire a car.
The things that we did whilst there was,
the maid of the mist boat tour (fun and a good experience),
helicopter tour over the falls (quite expensive, about £250 for 4, but worth doing while there, very very enjoyable),
lunch at the Sheraton Hotel (did not enjoy the food but had a great balcony view of the falls),
had a walk around the shops and casinos, thats it.
I think 2 days in Niagara would be long enough to see everything.
I recommend flying to Pearson International in Toronto, staying several night in Toronto as it there is loads to do, encluding a huge zoo which is (I think) the third largest in the world, Make sure to wear very comfortable trainers/shoes.
To do whale watching the nearest place (I believe) to go is Nova Scotia (But that is another plane journey in such a short time frame)
Personally we always put our own package together because you have the freedom to do what you want.We find it does not make a difference to the price. In fact most of the time it works out cheaper. |

Do the Maid Of Mist it is so fun.
Airports: Buffalo Niagara International Airport Cheektowaga, New York, or Pearson International In Toronto. And you're retarded for asking about whale watching. |

It depends what side you are going, the canadian side or the american side. I would personally recommend the canada side and the nearest airport is Toronto, it s a couple of hours drive from the falls.
I booked flight and hotel separately but that was because i was visiting other places too. A lot of companies to good deals if you buy them both together now.
I didnt see whale watching anywhere, but try to get on a trip that goes along the ocean to Niagara on the Lake which is a really beautiful quaint little village, The trips normally visit on the areas vineyards that produce the unique ice wine which is gorgeous. You have to do the maid of the mist too.
The link below is the company that transported us from airport to falls but also did an excellent day trip.
Hope you have a good time

Go to Toronto. I have heard it is much better than the US side. There are also casinos. Actually I have been there as well. Go on the boat ride and go through the caves great fun. |

I don't think you'll find enough to do in Niagara Falls to occupy 5 days, you would be better with a 2 centre trip (Globespan ??) 3 days in Toronto and 2 in Niagara. Lots to see in Toronto, Niagara has the Falls, Lady of the Mist boat trip, Spanish Cable Car, and, ??? PS crossing to the US side for a visit is fraught with red tape! The main airport is Toronto, but I think there is also a smaller one at Hamilton.
Whales??? How did they get over the falls?? |

I live near Niagara Falls, NEW YORK, You may be planning on the Canadian side. Either way, the closest airport is in Niagara Falls, then Buffalo, Ny, then Toronto. There are many things to do, tourism places all over will give you ideas...No whale watching, it's between 2 great lakes (fresh water), no ocean nearby. |

Niagara Falls is between two lakes. The water comes from Lake Erie goes over the Falls, then down the Niagara River into Lake Ontario. There is no whale watching. You have to go to eastern Canada to see that.
The Hilton is really expensive and there are so many other hotels and motels that are nice for way cheaper.
You could land in Buffalo 20 mins or Toronto 1 1/2 hrs away.

Toronto. Fun city. Can get a train or hire a car from there - 2 hour drive, quite easy.
Canadian side much prettier; too much concrete on the US side. Either way, you can cross if you want to sample both.
Whale watching? you want Boston or maybe East Coast Canada for that.
If in Boston, fail not to sup some clam chowder. Worth crossing the atlantic for. Beats whale watching, by the way - bobbing around in a huge motor boat, notionally stationary, in a cloud of diesel fumes, for an hour while a couple of grey shapes saunter past boringly against grey water... maybe we got a bad day for it, I don't know. The boat was full of Japanese and Norwegians. Can whales sense that?
or you could forget Niagra and go to Foz do Iguacu on the Argentine/Brazilian border - the worlds most astonishing waterfall, and surrounded by eye-popping beauty. |

Toronto is the nearest Canadian airport to the falls. It's about 1 to 1½ hours away.
As to whale watching the best sites on the East coast are between Newfoundland and New Brunswick, 2 provinces North and East. It would take at least two days to reach, allowing for sleep and eating etc. |

Great Rail Journeys has a cross Canada trip from Toronto to Vancouver, at the start of the trip is a couple of days in Toronto which take in the CN Tower and the N. Falls. Best in winter, all that snow! |

JC Munro (Hamilton) Airport is one of the closest to Niagara Falls. It is to the south of Toronto rather than the North, making it much closer to Niagara than Toronto's main airport, Pearson.
flyglobespan are operating flights into JC Munro from many UK airports from May onwards and offer deals to Canada staying in Toronto, Niagara or combining both into a 2 centre. With full transfer service available between JC Munro, Niagara and Toronto.
I think others may be right in saying that Niagara doesn't have too much on offer other than the falls, waterpark and casino - so 2 nights should be more than enough!
A top quality hotel is the Sheraton - and I would definitely recommend upgrading your room so that you are overlooking the falls.
Have a great time!

Canadian side of the falls is much better than the US side. Go to Toronto, fairly easy drive from there.
You'll have to go somewhere else for whale watching though!! |

I find it hard to understand why previous Answerers did not mention the airport (also) in Hamilton, Ontario. But fares to Buffalo, NY usually cheaper (Canada taxes are outrageous).
Stay on the Canada side for sure!!! Nothing on NY side except for slums and a casino.
Where the h*ll did you get idea that there would be any whales? But Nigara Penninsula is now an important wine growing area. Rent a car and do tasting tours. |
