I will be moving to Calgary in June 2007 but am unable to find accommodation? Need help?

Looking for a two bedroom basement or an apartment on the main floor. My budget is 800 - 950 CAD. I would appreciate it if somebody could help me out as time is running out.

If you go to "Craigslist" Calgary you can check out under "housing" some people that offers places to share and places to rent.

As an example;

695 / 1br - 1 Large Bedroom, Walk-out basement suite
$700 / 1br - 1 Bedroom + Bathroom w/ Access to Kitchen in a House

To be honest, I don't think you're going to get anything for that price. Most start at about $1200, and depend on where they are located. Check http://www.rentspot.com
The Calgary Herald is also a good bet. If you have a car, then you can look around on the city limits. The work commute is about an hour in most cases.

You aren't going to have any luck with your budget, sorry, unless you find some way to share an apartment with more people. Things are really tight there. Check if their newspaper has classifieds on line. Good luck.
An alternative might be to try find living quarters in the surrounding small towns.

There are a lot of people who move to Calgary and camp for a few months until they find something. (Yes, the situation really is that bad.) You might want to consider bringing your camping gear and putting your furniture/belongings in storage until you can find an apartment.

You really aren't going to find much for $800. Most of my friends have had their rent upped from $700 to $900 or thereabouts over the past few years -- and that's for one-bedroom apartments in large high rises.

Check everything online that you can .... but be prepared to spend a few nights in your tent. (Do NOT expect to be able to stay cheaply in hotels, either -- this is not a cheap town!)

Anyway, my last suggestion is that you might check the University of Calgary website. Lots of universities run a sublet directory, so you might be able to find someone's apartment to sublet just for June, July and August until you get a better place in the neighbourhood you want. Oh, and you can always stay at the U of C's dorms while you are looking. Cheap cheap!

Good luck ....

The Calgary market is very hard to get into, An apartment below $1000 that is Ok is very rare. Best bet is to room with someone. Try roommates.com or just search on the net for roommates you will find lots. Good luck.

I agree with The Elder God's response about cost. You might find something unfurnished for that price, but it might be difficult. Check out homerent.ca which lists all kinds of options. I found a great place through that website last summer. Otherwise, Calgary is a great city. Make sure to take some time to visit Banff and surrounding areas. It is so gorgeous, you won't believe what your seeing!

Not Ready to Make Nice
That is not going to work. There is a housing shortage. and the prices have skyrocketing. Good luck!
