well we already had that war and Canada won BUT granted its 200 years later BUT we would still win if the contest is who occupies Canada.
As in Iraq and Afghanistan the americans would quickly invade and overpower the formal Canadian army and occupy urban localities only. They wouldnt have enough troops to cover the whole country. BUT then as in Iraq and Afghan the local people get their say. Not only would hit and run raids wear down their military occupying cities here but we can go one step up from the folks in the mid-east. We can cross a 5000 km poruos border of rivers, lakes and mountains and forest with impunity to launch direct attacks. Not only that we blend completely with locales in speech and culture but we know them intimately . Small bands and individual Canadian warriors cross the border and make their way throughout the US. Do things like hijack gasoline trucks and run them into Capital buildings and power stations, set a few strategic fires in the santa ana hills in october, torch the oregon forests in mid-summer drought, drop a few million barrels of sodium hydroxide into the northern mississipi watershed, run a barge across the oil pipes coming in from the gulf of mexico to lousiana and texas refinaries, assisinate a few politicians (remember the #1 and #2 sniper distance confirmed kills in battle are held by Canadian snipers). the list is endless
Small arms and explosives from sympathetic countries wanting the US down a notch like russia, china, venezula, iran, etc would be supplied and easily smuggled into Canada by boat through inumerable and unguardable prots and coves along either coast,.
With each "act of terror" against their troops occupying here or direct damage on american citziens there (we of course would be the "terrorists") we would wear them down. Like russia in afghanistan the US would eventually have to pull out just for self preservation.
Remember Vimy Ridge, Passchendale, somme and Kandahar and in those battles our guys were not even fighting for home turf. The germans called our WW1 guys storm troopers and hated facing them in the trenches ..imagine the type of fighter Canadians will be defending our own den.
Military might aint everything in todays battlefield.... even the americans know you cannot occupy a place long term without the support of the local inhabitants no matter how cluster bombs and cruise missles you throw. They wouldnt be able to hold Canada |

Sure the US has an army, but Canadians will still kick a*s. We did once before and could do it again. We'll send out our attack beavers on moose back to burn down the white house again. Plus all the Americans would freeze to death since it's always cold here. All the vehicles and tanks would get stuck in the big snow drifts while we drive our dog sleds. Canada would also have lots of support from our fellow commonwealth nations, where as Americans have more enemies than friends. You only have friends because of Canada. |

I would like to think that every Canadian would fight to protect what we hold dear. I would hope our Allies would be just that, and all the other countries not so fond of the US, waiting in the wings for them to do something so ridiculous, might jump in as well, even if only to take the US down a notch.
I take offence to a fellow Canadian thinking our military "sucks". When you remember what our purpose is, you will realize those men and women are accomplishing the goal set out for them. Just look at some of the particular branch's motto's.
"Security"
"Out Of The Darkness, Light"
"Let Justice Prevail"
"To Understand"
and my personal favourite: "Everywhere".
That being said, I would hope all we have done for other countries, and to support our Allies, would be remembered in our time of need. |

I think that it would be the kind of thing that would ultimately start WW3. Canada's army sucks, but we haven't done anything at all to p*ss anyone else off either. The US have a lot of enemies who would probably like a reason to fight them, and them being at war with Canada would probably be a good reason. I have no idea which place I would put my money on. Probably America, because they could bully/bribe other countries into joining them like they did in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Edit - Live in Love...before you comment on Canada's literacy rate, maybe you should learn how to spell and use your homophones correctly. Both countries have a 99% literacy rate. And when it comes to allies, you do know that we have closer ties to most European countries than the US, right? Who exactly are America's allies? Romania? |

The US hasn't won a war on it's own. Superior military force and weaponry doesn't win wars, it only puts the country trillions in debt. They wouldn't win this war either. |

the whole entire world would support Canada, we're loved by everyone incl Pres Barrack Obama.." I LOVE CANADA" (Obama) |

Q&A

Canada (I think) would be supported by England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and some other countries, because we are a more peaceful country and more loved by other nations. |

They'd "occupy" us in about a week, but there would certainly be resistance groups springing up all over the place |

Physics 101

Canada for sure, the Americans have too many enemies, whereas Canadians dont. I dont think the American military is so great, otherwise they would win wars, unline they have done more recently in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The likely hood of this happening though is slim to none |

Ridiculous question! We are partners, US is our big brother and has only protected us for generations. Amazing how little Canadians know about US - Canadian relationships. eg: earlier answer said that we had a war 200 years ago. Canada was not even a country 200 years ago, we were British controlled. The US actually defeated the British in the war of 1812 when it destroyed the British Fleet in Lake Erie. All of Ontario could have become American, but all territories remained the same. It actually was an event that helped Canada resolve their independence. The US openly protects us, and show no aggression to us or us to them. |

Canada.
The United States military might be stronger but right now, public opinion has turned against the U.S, even with Obama in power. The Commonwealth Nations, including Britain and all other allies would come in on the Canadian side (U.S. not a member of the Commonwealth). The EU is economic and the UN can't intervene unless it is requested, so they would be useless.
This war would never happen though. Canadians are too close to Britain and have the world's largest trading relationship with the States. There isn't any real reason for the two countries to go to war, especially since Canada has been decreasing the scope of its foreign policy since the 1960s. Last, Canada is a massive territory and much too hard to hold.
Theory: If the US did invade Canada, they'd become Russia's next door neighbour and I don't think any country in the global community would want that... |

The US and Canada are too closely allied and have strong ties - it would never come to pass. Canada and the US have more in common than Canada does with Europe; the US is Canada's biggest trade partner and much of the Canadian economy is dependent on interaction with the US. Many Canadians have family in the US and vice versa; it would be a civil war in effect. But to answer your query:
The US would win. What support do you think you could expect from the EU? They are reluctant to support their own defense via NATO after all. Do you really think they will lend more than a statement of support? They have not put much funding into their military and have relied on the US to protect them since WW2. Russia's military is a mess just now. Asia could care less about Canada as the US is a bigger trade partner. The only way anyone would side with Canada was if they wanted to be the top superpower after the conflict. Canada would not emerge as a victor either way. Europe doesn't really want to see China or Russia at the top, so they would take the US side or sit it out.
So Canada would stand alone and would go down quickly. The UK might help, but they also have ties to the US.
The US has superior air, ground, sea and manpower. There are 300+ million Americans. The population of the state of California matches the population of all of Canada.
At the start of WW2 the US was unprepared and we managed to gear up for that very quickly. I believe that the US is still a sleeping dragon in effect.
Edit - thumbs down for logic, eh? You do all realise that at present Canada borrows military equipment from the US because your military budget is not adequate for your defense needs, right? (http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/site/newsroom/news_e.asp?cat=114&id=6032)
Anyway you slice it, Canada is outmatched. It wouldn't necessarily even be a guerilla war. If it theoretically was without restraint - the US could level Canadian cities in a week.
Other countries would look out for their own interests, as they usually do. So be glad the US has no interest in going to war with Canada and actually defends it. The reality is that the US has always protected Canada and will always do so.
And that one answer - Scotland doesn't have it's own army to side with Canada - it would still be part of the british forces as it's part of the UK. |
