i live just of the canadian border to british columbia. i have always loved travelling the roads of BC, and have NEVER encountered so much as a rude person. in fact, the majority of travellers along the freeway stops are families with children. they're helpful with directions and extremely friendly :)

vancouver, B.C. is a beautiful city with lots of fun activities and food to enjoy. try the ferry rides too :)

Oh yes, absolutely, I would highly recommend that you don't visit Canada for that very reason. You also have to watch that you don't get car jacked at the border when crossing into Canada, although it's just as well because you'll have to abandon your car for a dog sled team anyways.
