The link is to the current (i.e. end of December 2007) tariff schedule pertaining to photographic equipment and other similar items.
Since you didn't mention whether the camera is for stills (a true "photographic" camera) or for movies (cinematographic), I can't tell you what the duty will actually be.
But - from the tariffs - a cinematographic type would be anywhere from 0 to 5 percent import tariff. A photographic item would be between 0 and 5 percent import tariff.
In addition to the import tariff, you would have to pay the equivalent Canadian taxes for the "as purchased" price, valued in Canadian currency. Note that this depends on the province to which you're importing it; some provinces have higher sales tax than others, but all have the same GST value.
In the best case (importing to Alberta), you'd pay only GST on $6600. ($6600 * 0.06 = $396)
In the worst case (importing to PEI), you'd be paying 5% import tariff plus 16.6% sales tax. ($6600 * (0.05 + 0.166)) = (330 + 1095.60) = $1425.60 |

contact the customs department, and they will tell you. |

A LOT! See site below and scroll way down and read under the "personal exemptions" section. the highest personal exemption is 750.00. You must pay duty on everything over that amount. the duty will probably be about 15%...almost $1000.00. See second website for contact information...would be wise to contact the border service and check for specific info before making that purchase. Would prob. be cheaper to buy it in Canada. |

There is also a one time life time exemption of $10000.
This is for the case where a Canadian lives in the US
for a while and then moves back with their personal
items. The exemption may apply in other cases as well. |
