If an american becomes a citizen of canada? |
If a person who was born in America moves to Canada and becomes a citizen, are they legally allowed to go to Cuba like other Canadians? As a Marxist, I've always wanted to see Cuba, so I was just wondering... . Additional Details "violet"- Americans are not allowed to visit Cuba because of the embargo. Look it up anywhere:) |

Actually, ironically, Americans aren't forbidden from Cuba by the Cuban government. It's America that is barring its citizens from going there.
Lots of Americans jump flights from Toronto down. I know MANY Americans who have travelled there. As the Cuban officials don't stamp your passport there isn't any documentation you've been there. The flight I was on was about half and half American to Canadian. It's very interesting - you don't see any familiar brands in the grocery store - they get a lot of European products.
BUT if that doesn't rest too well with you can also apply for a special licence to be able to go there, legally, from the US for things such as journalism, religious purposes, humanitarian or research.
Techincally speaking, even if you are a Canadian, if you still have American citizenship and don't have a special licence to go, though, you are not supposed to travel there. Nobody under American jurisdiction is supposed to travel there. Anyone else is free too. Anglo-Canadians. Belarusians. Kenyans. But somebody with dual is still under American jurisdiction and is techically not allowed to go.
Of course, the Cubans, who're pretty much happy to have any rourist with paying money, look the other way with most Americans. Some do travel down on Canadian or other passports. I don't see the issue as they don't even bother to stamp the damn thing - very disappointing for me. I was looking forward to, like, a face of castro being in my passepeurto. |

Yes you can... My father is a Dual American-Canadian Citizen and he is perfectly allowed to visit. Keep in mind that if you bring your US passport they may ask you a few questions as to why you are there, but they will still allow you in. It is mainly the Americans that do not want you to go to Cuba rather than Vice-Versa...
Best of luck if you end up going, Very beautiful Country...

Americans can not visit Cuba. They also can not import anything from Cuba or export anything to Cuba. The American government enacted this embargo to prevent Cuba from getting American 'resources'. No vacationers going there and spending money. No American dollars spent on Cuban goods. No American technology etc. getting into Cuban hands. This originated because the American goverment has long condemned Fidel Castro's regime.
Guantanamo Bay was leased by the American goverment in 1903, while American and Cuban relations were good. Over time that relationship soured. In 1961, when diplomatic relations between America and Cuba broke down, the Americans maintain ed the base. The Americans pay roughly $4,000 a year to Cuba to maintain that base. The deal can not be broken without both Cuban and American consent. The Americans refuse to break the lease and hand the base back over.

Who can become a Canadian citizen
To become a Canadian citizen…
You must have lived in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) out of the four years immediately before you apply for citizenship.
And also need to learn French.
You must learn about Canada
You must know the rights and responsibilities of Canadians, such as the right and responsibility to vote. You must also know some things about Canada’s history and geography, and its political system. When we receive your application, we will send you an acknowledgment letter and a copy of our free publication, A Look at Canada. You will have to answer questions on the information in this publication when you go for your citizenship test.
Make sure you have the right application form
To apply to become a Canadian citizen, you must complete an application form and follow the instructions in the guide provided with the form.
If you are an adult (18 years of age or older), you must complete the “Application for Canadian Citizenship – Adults” form.
You can also visit the CIC website at www.cic.gc.ca to download and print the application forms and guide.
The fee for adults is $200. |

Of course you can go to Cuba, it's every Canadians right to travel where they want to (unless of course the foreign destination of choice doesn't let you in).
You can go as an American if you want to, you just have to make sure that the US authorities don't find out so they don't fine you.
I've been to Cuba 3 times. I've seen Americans there. The Cubans actually want Americans to come there. You just need to fly through Toronto or Cancun... you'll get there no problem. Just slip the custom official (I'm serious about this) slip him/her 20 bucks US.. they won't stamp your passport so US authorities would never find out. |

Yes, and you can buy as many Cuban cigars as you want here.
Once when I was living in England I was sending some truly expensive Cuban cigars to my father, and FedEx refused to even take them to Canada because they were cuban! It was ridiculous. |

Contrary to the mis-information out there, American's can go to Cuba. They need to get a license from the department of state.
The requirements can be found here:
