If an american citizen can retain citizenship while becomeing a citizen of another country(dual citizenship)?
Some immigrants to the U.S. retain their citizenship automaticly
in their birth countries even though they become U.S. citizens
and have dual citizenship. As americans do we share this same
right of dual citizeship if we applied for citizenship in aother country
? for example Canada, Mexico, Great Brittain
An American can hold dual citizenships in Canada. The catch is you have to continue to file income tax returns in both countries. Since Canada and the US have tax reciprocity, this won't cost you more. Any tax paid in canada is treated like the tax was paid in either country.

It depends on the country you want to apply to. You can retain your American citizenship if the other country allows you. I know that in the case of my father, he has dual citizenship. he is colombian by birth and has american citizenship. he has both. The US does not allow him to have both, but Colombia doesn't care either way. I guess there might exist a way to not even let the US know that you are applying for citizenship elsewhere. why tell?

This a good question. I know some countries allow dual citizenship, such as the U.S. I heard on the news yesterday that if Brad and Angelina apply for citizenship in the country where the baby was born (Tanzania, I think) citizenship would be granted.

A person becoming a naturalized US citizen must renounce citizenship in any other country. But a person entitled to dual citizenship by birth may keep it. As for a US citizen proposing to become a citizen of a foreign country, that country's laws will control whether a dual citizenship may be held.

I actually read about this awhile ago. I believe it said something along the lines of you can do that if you're American, but only if the country allows it. Some countries do not.

This totally depends on the country you are considering. Some countries allow dual citizenship, others do not. So you would have to check with the consulate of a specific country to find out whether they do or do not allow it.

Why do you want dual citizenship for? Are you an American wanting to go to Cuba?
