If i travel by car from the u.s. to canada....?

According to the US Customs and Border Protection website:

"Beginning January 31, 2008, U.S. and Canadian citizens 19 years and older who enter the U.S. at land and sea ports of entry from within the Western Hemisphere will need to present government-issued photo ID, such as a driverâ€™s license as proof of identity, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate, or a passport. Children age 18 and under will be able to enter with proof of citizenship. Verbal claims of citizenship and identity alone will not be sufficient to establish identity and citizenship for entry into the United States.

Note: Children age 18 and under will need to present a birth certificate, naturalization certificate or a passport to enter the U.S."

Which means that you may not need the passport to get into Canada, but you better have proof of citizenship to get back into the US. A driver's license alone may not cut it. Bring a notarized or certified birth certificate or other valid proof of citizenship for EVERYONE - including any minors, even if they are babies.

Absolutely for sure... you DO NOT need a passport yet if driving across the border either way. You need only birth certificate and drivers license or other government issued photo id. As of June,2009 you will need a passport even if driving.
Right now its only if you flying into the US that you need a passport.

nope you need your birth certificate and your drivers licence my bestfriend and her husband just went there 2 months ago by car now if your going by plane you need a passport
