It depends on how you cross the border. By air, you must have a passport. By land (such as in a car or train), a birth certificate and driver's license (or alternate documents listed at the URL below) is sufficient for now. The rules are changing next year, however, so if you intend to continue traveling outside the U.S. it would be a good idea to renew your passport sooner rather than later. |

If you are travelling by air, you will need your passport to get BACK into the US, even if you dont need it to get into Canada.
