Yes I did it and lived together for ten years after, till she threw me out. . . .and divorced me in USA legally with Californian community property laws

Yes, assuming you are legally able to be married in the State you live in (if you are both men then some States apparently have legislation preventing same sex marriages).

If there is no legal reason why you cant be married in the US. of course, otherwise we Cdn could just move to the US and not be married - wow. A legal marriage is a legal marriage all over the world.

Now I don't know the reason but when my Canadian wife and I were going to get married and she was immigrating to the US,
both my lawyers (one US & one Canadian) told us not to wed in Canada, wed in the US. I'm American and don't know the reason. We live in Canada now so it really didn't matter.

Yes it would be legal. Now I dont know your situation, but if your a Canadian citizen and your fiancee is American and your planning on living in the USA or Canada together, you'll have to apply for a visa to live there legally.
