If the U.S. were to invade Canada would it result in something similar to what happened in "Canadian Bacon"?

Additional Details
What is everyone in here talking about? Did anyone here even see the movie Canadian Bacon?

I'm glad you liked that movie. it proves that Americans and Canadians can laugh at each other and also turn a huge profit together.

1. Canada's 30 million babies don't just have one British mommy. They have French mommy, Russian mommy, Chinese mommy, Indian mommy, Pakistani mommy. So say us Canadians are related with, hmm... about 3 billion other people in the world. What was the US population again? 300 million? And who is your mommy? Mrs. Bush?
2. Sure US spend 10 times in military budgets than Canada. How much of that can be used to invade Canada? Let's do the math, with operations in Iraq, Afghan., Korea, Japan, Germany, etc... how much do you have to spare to attack Canada?
3. Good point. But 100% of Canadians are comfortable to move north into the cold climate. What's the percentage of Americans that can stand -40 degrees temperature?
4. True. Experience of military invasions.
5. Are we talking about summer Olympics? Ok, U.S. 300million people, 103 medals; Canada 30 million people, 12 medals? Should I go on and talk about Winter Olympics?
6. Isn't there a Nobel Peace Prize but no Nobel Prize in Invading other countries, eh?
7. One word ... FEARLESS
8. HOCKEY AND BEER!!!!

From what I knew, U.S have tried to invade Canada before, and they're brought to the ground by Canadian people.

It happened already (War of 1812, which I doubt is taught in US history classes)

more like "Red Dawn" I would imagine..

- consider aslo that the average American would have no idea how to ID a Canadian -- unlike Mexicans for example we could slip completely undeteced across our vast border to form sleeper cells ... the US despite their large military hasn't traditionally fared well against guerilla insurgants.

just look at Hollywood, completely dominated by Canadians relative to our considerably smaller population.. few realize that those "actors" are really highly trained Cdn forces commandos - awaiting their Manchurian Candiadate style orders!

EDIT:

regarding the War of 1812, I suspect US History might be somewhat less that objective in detailing military events (ie how the US won WWII as I oft hear Americans exclaim)..

The documented fact is British forces were bolstered significantly by CANADIAN militia, including local colonists, United Empire Loyalists, Aboriginals and French Canadians.

The thrashing bestowed on the Yanks in 1812, in fact helped to sow the seeds of Cdn identity

"Canadians soon developed a national history to the effect that they had defied a great invasion threat. The largely American population of Upper Canada did not side with the United States; lured northwards by free land and low taxes, the settlers wanted to be left alone. After the bitter war, it was not wise to advocate American political ideals, such as democracy and republicanism. Thus the British and United Empire Loyalists elite were able to set Canadians on a different course from that of their former enemy. Additionally, the growing belief that they, the civilian soldiers, and not the Indians and British regulars, had won the war helped to germinate the seeds of nationalism in Canada[4]."

you know i really think this is a stupid question but should anyone try to invade us i dont think there would be much to worry about. our leaders would not have to go on tv and tell the world "if your not with us your against us." i think many nations would come to our aid. even though the war of 1812 was fought before Canada was a country the people living here are still the children’s children of those who fought. also, unlike some countries even though Canada has problems amongst ourselves if you threaten one Canadian you threaten us all and we band together. as for Britain being our "mommy" as someone put it i say good for us. we didnt have to have a war and kill ourselves and each other to get "freedom" we are free and still have allies without having to threaten the rest of the world. i really dont think we have much to worry about. its also funny that some would say our military is not as good as some other country yet it is our military that is going after the "enemy" that certain leaders of a certain country does not have his own military concerned with. also if you think our military is not up to par with others why dont you ask the people of northern Holland what they think about that? lets not forget that for some countries it was "a bridge too far" but not for the Canadians and i really dont care that it was a number of years ago.

by the way other than the movie i dont even know what Canadian bacon is??? is that an american thing or what???

What it would be similar to would be like most of the American wars that were fought. You're still bogged down in Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan. You had your butt kicked out of Vietnam, Lebannon, Iran, Cuba. You've been losing so many battles that its hard for me to understand your reasoning for wanting to invade Canada only to get your tail kicked again. Reinstate the draft and we will get hundreds more of your soldiers jumping the border.

In the War of 1812 the Americans invaded and then occupied parts of what was then known as Upper Canada, including Montréal. They retreated after the Battle of the Châteauguay, where a ragtag guerilla force of mostly French speakers, led by a local siégnieur by the name of Salaberry defeated an American army of 5000 men. As far as I know from American friends, although the invasion and occupation is occasionally mentioned in history classes in American schools, the defeat at the Battle of the Châteauguay never is mentioned. It ought to be. Maybe if Bush and his neocons had gone to the battlefied (about 35km southwest of Montréal) and contemplated your Iraq disaster would have been avoided. Same thing for Johnson 40 years ago before the Viet Nam escalation.

(By the way, our differing attitude toward war is demonstrated
somewhat by the fact that at the Battle of the Châteauguay National Historic Site, unlike similar sites in the USA there are no
preserved waepons like cannons and cannonballs).

Why to Canada?
we r not Afghanistan neither Iraq r Somalia
we r
CANADA

kent_shakespear
Questioner, you need to get out more. Breath some fresh air.

PS to the others - Yes, the War of 1812 is taught in US schools, and that was against Britain. Canada as a nation didn't exist until 1867, and it was the British military, not civilians, who defended their colonies of Upper and Lower Canada.

I don't think the states would be that stupid, we kicked their asses b4 and we can do it again...don't 4get we get all our guns and ammo from Canadian tire. with a good warranty..

The fact that Canada THINKS they defeated the US is laughable. We were fighting Britain not Canada. and it was when we first started estblishing ourselfs as a coutry. You didnt beat us. you had to be a baby and have the help of mommy britain.

Reasons the US would dominate.

1. Canada a population of 30 million ppl. The USA a population of 300 million.
2. US has a bigger military budget than the next 12 countries combined more than 10 times that of canada. and not to mention overall GDP.
3. Location. 90% of the canadian population is located on the US-Canadian border. Easy targets. While more that 100 million american citizens are close to the mexican border.
4. Experience of military sitiations.
5.American are stronger.. look at every olympics.. who dominates....Americans
6. Americans are smarter...more Nobel Prizes than anyother country twice as many as the country in 2nd place.
7. one word.. SUPERPOWER
8..Remove all american media. and they would die from boredom. cuz canada cant produce anything entertaining if their life depended on it. Thats why they are on Yahoo Answer.. an American company.
