As most people have already said, if you walked across at a controlled border crossing, yes, you would be stopped by a Canada Customs agent.

If you were hiking somewhere in a remote area where there were no roads and you just slipped across the border, sure you could do it. Depending where it was you may or may not get caught. Yes, there is surveillance of the border but that doesn't mean that every single mile of the border is constantly under watch. Chances are you would get noticed by the Americans rather than the Canadians and they may or may not care to let their Canadian counterparts know.

Just a warning, though, if you get caught you can be arrested, charged and sent back to the U.S. It actually happens on occasion - a couple of years ago some nut from the U.S. was love-struck by a Canadian girl, I think from Montreal. He WALKED to Canada in the WINTER. Where did he end up? Manitoba, which is about half a continent away from Montreal. He ended up getting frostbite, losing a few fingers, getting arrested and getting deported.

You will be stopped and arrested by the US Border Patrol. And they will not be happy!

It may look unprotected, but there are cameras, motion detectors, and all kinds of electronic gadgets. Not to mention car and helicopter patrols.

I live 7 miles from the border.

I assume you mean the border between the USA and Canada. It is the worlds longest unprotected border, but that being said, you aren`t allowed to just wander over it any time you feel like it. We generally like you Americans, but please knock before entering.

There`s a chance you wouldn`t get caught, but according to the link below, there`s likely a network of cameras at most passable crossings.

Yess you will have to clear Canadian Customs but if your passport is in good order you will have no problem entering Canada

chomedey1
You are legally not allowed to cross the border without passing customs. If you get caught, you will never be allowed into Canada again.

it's a long border and there are spots that do not have border agents so it's possible to cross where there is no one there
