Absolutely not. Canadians would NEVER have elected George W. Bush!!!

No.

That's why it is called Canada and has an international border between it and the US.

Never !! and we like to keep it that way.

not that we don't like our brother across the 49th parallel, but we're different and so is our country. there is a host of info out there, do some serious research and you will learn a lot.
one of the main differences is that we likely know more about the US than Americans will ever know about us - broad based.
.
I bet you don't know that we have more total area (square miles) than the US?

and here a laugh:
This is an actual radio Conversation from October 1995 between a US navel ship and the Canadian Authorities

CANADIANS:- Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision

AMERICANS:- Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the north to avoid a collision

CANADIANS:- Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision

AMERICANS:- This is the captain of a US navy ship. I say again, divert your course

CANADIANS:- No I say again, you divert your course

AMERICANS:- This is the aircraft Carrier US Lincoln, the second largest ship in the US Atlantic Fleet. We are accompanied by three destroyers, three cruisers and numerous support vessels. I demand that you change your course 15 degrees north. I say again, that's
one-five degrees north, or counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship

CANADIANS:- This is a lighthouse. Your choice

No.

A friend and I were talking about this the other day.

While we speak the same language, live very similar day to day lives, no, overall our mindset is different. The atmosphere is different.

We are different.

Absolutely not. The laws are different, the political system is different, the health care system is different, the educational system is different, the system of weights and measures is different - and the people are different. Other than that......

Canada and the US have similarities but they also have many differences. If Canada was identical to the US, don't you think it would be one big country instead of 2?

Nope....

Give your head a shake! There are similarities - assuming a normal birth, we all have 2 legs, 2 arms, 1 torso and 1 head. We all use the limbs and torso in a similar way but the way we use our heads is very different. And it is the way we use our heads that determines most of what we do and what we become. Keeping in mind that both sides have their exceptions, Canadians think, talk and work at Peace. Americans think, talk and work at War. And it has been that way since becoming countries in our own right for each of us. Americans took to guns; Canadians took the diplomatic and peaceful approach to get to the same end. Grant you, it took us longer to reach that end but I do not see that we suffered in any great way for the waiting.

You may look at the slavery issue as a separate issue but, it is not. Canadian economy was never based on slavery; America's was. This changes the way people think on just about everything - the way each person thinks about races other than their own; the way men think about and treat women (not many Scarlett O'hara types in Canada); the need for physical violence to keep both groups "in their place"; the need for guns, not just in the military, but in your homes and tucked under your pillows. What a horrid way to have to live! I think slavery is the root of a lot of your contemporary woes because they're the root of a lot of the thought patterns Americans have that have spilled over into every other area of life for you.

So now there are no more slaves and no more or very few spoiled rotten women but those thought patterns have been learned and learned well by contemporary blacks and other races you deem inferior and by women. Judging by the number of youngsters who get into trouble with their aggressive traits and behaviours and your love of guns, the babes are learning early down there. Our concern in Canada is that your kind of thinking, like an epidemic of polio or small pox is seeping across the border via tv and internet and affecting the way parents treat kids and also affecting our kids directly.

I could go on but I think you get the message.
So the answer to your question is NO! We are NOT essentially the same.

YES.... and we are a fake multicultural country. KKK is welcome here.
Why?

If you are white Christian,
then yes people here are very friendly.

If you are an ethnic minority Christian,
then yes people here are little bit friendly

If you are an ethnic minority Athists/Muslim/Hindu/Buddhist,
then NO people here are bunch of Nazis.

Oh... its the same as US... isn't it! Except the fact that we love Jews.

This is the next generation of racist Canadians: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2008/11/21/bc-red-hair-sooke-students-kick-ginger.html

Absolutely not. Canadians would NEVER have elected Barack Obama.

Kraf M
No,

Quirky Canada -- they have their own laws, constitution, government, and sovereign borders.

They're not US - they're like the Maple-Leaf state.

Trout Daddy
Canada is like the U.S. if the entire U.S. were Minnesota.
