I live in Vancouver and it isn't scary at all. I'm 14 and I go by my self everywhere. At night time doh, don't walk in alleys. Nothing has ever happened, but alleys themselves just scare me. Also, Downtown, near the Chinatown area seems a lil scary because their are a lot of druggies, don't be too scared, there are a lot of people and unless you go downtown at night, then it is safe too. The bus is very easy to take, just ask the bus driver for directions. Also there are skytrains in Van. They are very fast and can get you across the city fast. Burnaby is very safe. I love Vancouver, a very beautiful place to live. Hope you enjoy your stay.
To sum it up, don't go in alleys or downtown at night by your self. Don't be afraid to ask for directions, every one is nice here. Can't find a pay phone, go into any store or some one on the street and ask if you can borrow their phone. also pay phones are everywhere. Of course at all places, there are risks, just take the same precautions your usally take.

Going to burnaby and Vancouver should be safe before dark or like 10 - 11 pm. If you are in a gang or are related in any way u still have to be careful. I dated a guy whose in some dealing stuff and was partially known to ppl from vancouver. Just dont start sumthing with them

Dun be scared Vancouver is one of the safest places in the Lower Mainland
only people who get shot here are gangsters not innocent people in most cases

Don't worry Vancouver is generally very safe. You often see teens hanging out downtown and walking around etc (its common). The bus system here is very easy to take and buses come roughly every 15 min (if your in downtown then around every 5-10min) and skytrain comes every 2-3min so its a very good system.
Be more cautious at night time though, cause obviously things can happen. If you are travelling at night make sure you are in a large group of friends.

check out the website. you can even do trip planning by entering your start address and end address and it will tell you all you need to know.
Good Luck!!!

Vancouver is really safe acctualy unless you are in a gang!!!!!!!!!!! Don't hang out on the east side of down town after 11:20 unless you are with someone! Well the bus is good and all the routs are easy i think if you are plannign on taking a bus you may as well get a bus pass! I think if it is pausible you should try to hook up with another toriste (girl or boy) and trval together so you can help eachother out and make your trip some way safer! Ways to be safe
- get a map
-bus pass
-don't be in down town in wee hours unless your with someone
-find a friend and it will make life so much easier
-don't go with anyone you don't know( duhhhhhh)
-In down town vancouver their are a lot of homeless people and it is sad they always ask for money so keep about 5$ change for them (if you want)
-Some people in down town are crazy(mental ilness) so stay away
-Some times you will find drugs in down town or people doing drugs just walk by quick(always wear proper runnign shoes)
-In down town don't wear short shorts it give some crazy people unless someone is with you (wear jeans our lulu's(lulu lemon) and bermudas,
It is really safe it is just you don't want to take chances so i live here and have never ran into any problems like these until yesterday after school a creep asked em to come with him i ran so fast !

downtown is also the best places to shop :pacif center(hollisters, h&m, abrecrombie, le chateau guess) park royal (tna, aritzia (my fave) american eagle, american apperal all around robson and berrard

IT IS REALLY A GREAT PLACE

The bus system is very easy to take.
www.translink.bc.ca <- go to that website you can type in your address and where you want to go and it will tell you exactly what bus to take to get their and where that bus stop is located!
To be safe i would suggest taking cabs late at night instead of busses, because some really creepy people take the busses in Burnaby at night. Other than that you are relatively safe. Just don't be rude to people and you will be fine.
Enjoy burnaby! i grew up there. It's not an unsafe place to live. Just be careful, and aware of your surroundings at night. Like any place just try not to walk far alone late at night. You'll be fine!
