no, 90% of people there speak english as well as french. however, many of them are very protective of their language so they really appreciate if you make an attempt at french. A good way to do this is to say "parlez vous anglais?" (pronounced par ley voo Onglay) Which means "do you speak english?" This will usually please them!

Know a few basic starter sentences. Not that you need that, but it is going to go a long way in enjoying a better vacation.

In suburbs, some do indeed speak only French, or very limited English, but in Montreal, you will have no problem.

almost everyone is bilingual in MOntréal, but you should learn some phrases in the language of the province(thats the polithe way, when you travel)

Ive been to Montreal and i know lil french but when your getting around places alot of people tent to know a lil bit of english but you would think you would be embarrassing yourself but it looks more funny when the people are trying to help your out but you'll you'll get though montreal easy and will probably make sure you take your time looking at the sites lol

itssoeasy
most people are bilingual.
although it wouldnt hurt to learn a few basic sentences.
you'll have fun there.
so don't worry.

No, you won't. However I would suggest that you write down some very basic French words like the days of the week, numbers 1-10, directions and basic salutations. As you depart the airport, you will quickly notice that street signs are in French. This can lead to a challenge when you attempt to park in downtown Montreal.

I attended grad school in Montreal for two years. You will have a fantastic trip! The people are friendly and it is a relatively safe city. However, be respectful that they will likely acknowledge you in French first.

A lot of people there speak both French and English, so no you should not have a problem if you speak either of those languages. I would definitely keep your valuables attached to your body at all times. I had my purse stolen which of course had my passport in it. I had to go to the police station several times and was able to communicate in English. Also, FYI if you know Creole French it will only be minimally effective, they are very different.
