You have to consider: size and congestion; cost of living; climate; availability of jobs. If you pick one of those that is most important to you - then you can totally zero in on a province and a city that is perfect for you.
Best climate is in BC - worst cost of living is in BC, anything is acceptable in BC, and if you are a cross-dressing bisexual who smokes dope and shoots up and happens to be a visible minority, then you will have found your nirvana.
Worst congestion is in Ontario - close second to BC as far as cost of living.
Worst climate is Manitoba - but it has best cost of living.
Saskatchewan is same as Manitoba.
Alberta is exactly in between Manitoba and BC - has liveable climate and better cost of living than BC (no provincial tax).
Ontario is a mix of everything - ugly climate in northerly places, but good cost of living; ugly cost of living in major cities like Toronto, but not bad climate.
Quebec - well let's see - Quebec can be cold in certain areas, but it is very cosmopolitan, beats the hell out of Ontario, and it has a great deal to offer everyone.
Maritimes - unusual weather patterns, fabulous, warm and wonderful people, fantastic seafood and music, high cost of living and no jobs.

Depends what you are looking for:
Culture, history, fashion, arts: Montreal or Quebec City
Cosmopolitan, action, excitement, jobs: Toronto, Vancouver
Ratrace: Toronto
Cosmopolitan and year-round outdoor lifestyle: Vancouver
Small-town, friendly, slower-pace: Victoria
Weather: Vancouver, Victoria
Cold, stay-in doors (for 8-9 months) : almost everywhere else

toronto and vancouver are the most interesting and populated cities, also the most expensive. vancouver has a moderate temp, with a lot of rain. toronto is cold in winter and hot in summer
calgary is quite expensive and has a strong economy based on oil production. has a fairly mild temp. can get quite warm in summer and usually doesnt get too cold in winter
winnipeg and regina are smaller cities that are very hot in summer and very cold in winter. they have a good economy and are not too expensiv
every canadian city is distinctively different and all offer pros and cons. the big popular cities are so expensive to live but there is always something to do and see. the smaller cities can be dull at times but less expensive. |

You need to come and look around, becuase personally I hate Toronto. Cities+ smaller cities of that area to look at:
Vancouver-Victoria
Calgary-Edmonton
Toronto-Ottowa
Montreal-Quebec
My choice is to either go for Vancouver or Montreal. |

Hi
Canada has a large worker shortage in many places.
Place where you may find it more affordable are the Atlantic provinces. It tends to be safer as well.
The cities are not major metropolises. Some of the cities are St.John, Fredericton, Moncton, St.John's, Halifax, Charlottetown and a few more.
Here is a website that shows the types of jobs available in each of the four provinces:
http://www.careerbeacon.com/
The New Brunswick section even has an immigration section:

My hometown. Whitehorse, Yukon: beautiful, pristine, untouched, yet surprisingly modern. Only city in Canada where you are guaranteed of getting a job no matter what your skill/education level- there are job openings everywhere, the city is desperate for workers! The people are very kind and welcoming, especially towards newcomers. Just make sure you bring warm clothes, it can get a little chilly at times!
Good luck!!! |

OK, well it depends.. Toronto is the most populated city in Canada, so if you dont like places were you have to wait forever to get somewere, well Toronto might be too big... Ottawa is much smaller, but it is still big enough, so you wont run out of stuff to do lol.
Uhmm, i dont know were your from, but over here it is COLD in the winter ! Like we dont live in igloos but you will need a tuque and mitts and a winter coat.
It all depends what you like really.... Ontario is the most populated province, and we have big forests and stuff.. Quebec is mostely the same, exept it is french. Then you've got saskatchewan that doesnt have woods or trees, its all a bunch of fields, were there are more farmers. You should do a search on the net to check it out. But my vote goes to ottawa, were its big, but not too big. Have fun ! |

When people in Canada say Toronto they generally mean the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and what that means is a good chunk of southern Ontario. Depending on what you want the big cities; Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, and Winnipeg are OK I'm not keen on them even though I've lived in Toronto and Ottawa. There are lots of smaller cities and you would have to check a map of the province that you wish to live in to see what your choices are.
I place that I've always liked is Halifax NS it is big enough to have lots to do a good climate and it is an all round nice place. BTW I don't live there nor do I have any connections to the place just been there on business and pleasure. |

If you're in love with such things as crumbling infrastructure, crabby people, tons of ancient concrete, political morons, a trashy transportation system and getting shot by a drug dealer every time you step out the door then you would like Toronto. If not, then go someplace else...best city is Vancouver if weather is a concern. People are basically friendly there with a laid-back lifestyle. It doesn't snow much there and the summers don't fry you in humidity. |
