Well, I live in Quebec City, in the Province of Quebec.. So I say that I live in Quebec ;)

But sometimes (a lot in fact), people will look at me with a little smile and clear question marks in their eyes :p So I hand up saying "You know.. in Canada ?". And that's when they understand :p

Then again, it happened to me while I was in _Boston_ (about 6h from Quebec City itself), so it's not necesseraly only in the middle of the states :p

Province. Not many people would recognize the name of the small town I'm from.

If I'm in the USA, depending on the state, I might just say "Canada". Some people don't know that Canada is divided into provinces and territories, and there are some (thankfully not many) who don't even know that there are cities in Canada. They think we live in trapper cabins and igloos.

In Washington, Oregon and most of California, its a safe bet that people would recognize the province name and maybe the city. In the southwest, probably the same. In the midwest - they know about Toronto and Montreal, but not much about western Canada. In the south - good luck.

I would say province because I live in a small town and no one knows where it is. Besides, most people think that Canada has one city, Toronto.

♥Lily♥
I would say both... unless it was a major city like Toronto or Calgary.

My3Boys
I'd say the city, then elaborate further if they don't know where it is.

Quite often I actually have to ask them if they know where the state directly below our province is, then tell them we're north of that.

CO
i say city and then province

Ed P
city first then clarify if needed
