Probably because Canada isn't part of the US. It *IS* another country...and most other countries in the world use the Metric system. Kilometers are a more widely accepted way of measuring distance than the miles used in the US.
Also keep in mind that at one time, Canada was still part of British rule until 1982.
It'd be nice if the US would just switch over to Metric so it's in sync with the rest of the world, but hey, you can't have everything. |

every onbe except the usa has different measures....the world goes by the metric system...USA doesnt....i go by the metric because im from puerto rico |

Simply because Canada uses the metric system, as does most of the world. |

we have a metric system |

We switched to the metric system back in the 1970's and joined the rest of the world. The theory behind the switch was to enable our manufacturing for overseas consumption to be in metric, although our biggest trading partner has been the U.S. I believe the US is the only industrialized Nation to still use the imperial system. |

The question you should be asking is why in America they measure using miles instead of regular km, and stuff like that. Canada uses the standard methods of measurement along with every other country in the world. America decided it needed to be special and invented inches, feet, fahrenheit, etc. |

That is because Canada is in tune with the rest of the world and we are not. |

Canada uses the metric system. Everything is measured in tenths...centimetres, metres, decametres, kilometres...centi, deca, and kilo all representing a different multiple of 10. We use this system because our country was taken over by the British, and these are the systems that the Brits used (and still do). The same goes for Celsius measurement, and the fact that we left the u's in words like "colour" and "neighbour" and "favourite". |

because we use the metric system. its easier, things can be put into decimals instead of fractions and its easier to do math with metric since the numbers are round simple numbers like 10, 100, 1000 etc. not everyone is the same as America. |

Canada uses the metric system because the rest of the world does. It is USA that is out of sync with the world in regards to weights and measurements. |

because Canada uses the metric system. US scientists use the metric system too. |

Canada uses the metric system and the US doesn't
or the user that said Canada is mostly french is very mistaken, only a very small part of Canada is french |

Its because we use the metric system, which is actually more common throughout the world than the imperial system, which is what you guys have. |

Canada uses the metric system, the US uses the imperial system. The metric system is used in almost every world country EXCEPT the US. |

In the USA, why do they use Miles and Farenheit when the rest of the world uses the Metric system?
The reason for this is that the USA didn't like the system that everyone else uses, and they wanted their OWN, hoping that it would catch on and everyone would follow suit. But it didn't, and they are still the only ones to use it. |

Canada is not primarily French for the first person who answered.Secondly why do you think we have to do it the AMeircan way ?? Were a different country !
The mtric system is used in the majority of the world ...ask yourself then why the USA is not ??? |

Every nation decides things like that for themselves. Canada chose metric. |

Well, Canada used to use Imperial Measure however we switched to the metric system several decades ago as it is the system used by most of the world. The US still used the old British system although even in England they are using metric now. There are some advantages since the system uses the 10x table which makes calculations easier. You will find however that most stores give costs for items sold be weight in both systems. I use both systems equally since, when I was young, I was taught the Imperial system.
The metric system was actually adopted in Britain in 1864 and legalized by the US Congress in 1866. |

Actually, the United states is the weird ones. I think we are they only country in the world who use miles, farenheit, inches, etc. Europe, etc. all use kilos, celcius, cm, etc. |

Americans are slower learners. They tried to switch to the metric system but people got confused, so they went back to the comfortable old imperial system. Like the previous PREVIOUS poster said, we kept the u's in our words...Americans likely dropped the u because they can't spell ;) ah...thumbs down...go right ahead :)
Older generations of Canadians still use the imperial system because they're used to it. Our weather forecasts show both celcius and farenheit...and most people still refer to their height in feet and inches as opposed to centimetres...but that's about all. |

Only USA and UK still use English scale. |

becuase were just confusing like that.
the whole miles and farenhite and stuff in the usa confuse me cause im from canada.
but its just because we have a different system then you, like how you guys have inches and feet, we have cetemeters and meters. although i have to say i use feet and inches more its just easier haha. |
