Here is the process, with the options, to work in Canada. If you are qualified and prepared to work in the oil industry, fo example, it may be easier. |

if you want to live and work in canada you must apply and qualify to immigrate from outside canada

I'm afraid Jim B. is correct. Canada is in the midst of a deepening recession and we already have enough unemployed people as it is. While Canada is certainly a welcoming place, I would really advise you to just stay put. |

You should probably investigate the Electrical Safety Authority, which provides safety certificates for work done in Ontario. An electrician I've used is registered with them. He's from the Toronto area and did work for me .. used to charge $50 an hour, then raised it to $55, then recently, $65 ... for really simple work (changing outlets, etc).
The home-improvement industry has been gouging us for many years - so as long as you offer solid work for reasonable rates (not like my scumbag electrician), I would think you'll be able to find work.
I'm hoping some of the rates for electrical work etc. will come down a bit once the economy slows a little more.
There isn't a huge Irish community in the Toronto area. But Canadians love Irish-style pubs and that's where I've met people from the U.K. and Ireland.
Sorry - don't know anything about visas, but I've included a link that may help. |

I would say there is a lot of work in the Toronto area for electricians.
yes, the economy has slowed but look at the new housing projects around the city. The Irish community is easy to find, just go to an irish pub and you'll meet plenty of your countrymen. I'd say most electricians are unionized so you'd make a decent salary and work conditions would be good. My mother came to Canada from Ireland and had no problems adjusting. |

This a VERY BAD time to move anywhere, out side of your own country.
Canada, along with most of the rest of the world, is suffering thru a serious economic crisis, and unemployment is going up by the week.
I live in Toronto, and I can say for sure that you will NOT be able to get a job here as a trades man, as the hundreds of others who are all ready out of work will be lined up ahead of you. And as you might expect we are going to hire our own citizens before you.
My serious advice is this.................Stay in Ireland, keep your job if you have one, and wait at least 4 or 5 years, to see how the world economy is doing, at that time.
