Just checking - do you have permission to live and work in Canada?

You will need to produce it at the border.

BTW $10000 US is about $12,323 according to the Bank of Canada today. If you have a job and somewhere to stay, that should still be fine.

With a job etc to boot then the 10k will be a support float; if you are careful I see no reason why not although it is subject to your preferred standard of life. Happiness is far more important that a materialistic gain in the first instance.

Sincerely wish you well and find myself a tad envious of your courage.

Hearty good luck to you and your family.

It sounds like you've put a lot of thought into this, and have well prepared financially. Yeah, I'd say 10Gs would do quite well; I've known a LOT of people that did what your about to do with less than a $1000, and managed...I don't recomend that though. Just don't burn any bridges behind you in case things don't work out.

dolly
yeah go for it!

Where are you moving to in Canada? There are big cost differences among Canadian cities. However, that being said, when I was in college, and first moved to where I am living, I had $5000 in the bank and was good for a couple of months. This covered my moving expenses, books, and first 3 months of general expenses (although I was a student, so I lived pretty tight). Today, our expenses, with a mortgage, savings, college fund for our daughter, etc run around $4000 per month. Either way, you should have sufficient funds for until you get your first pay check.

Yes! Welcome to Canada!!!

Yes it will be until you start getting paid from your job. It'll last longer in some places, depending on where you live, the cost of living is higher. Also, you will only be able to rent. Not enough for a down payment on a house.

Mike J
Yeah, should last you a few months if you spend normal
