Is Canada a real country?

I know Canada is a commonwealth of England and is self governed, but is Canada a real country in the literal definition of the word?

Plus they have the queen on their money, that seems a little weird.
Additional Details
Why should it matter if I'm Canadian or not?

Funny question. I've always sort of thought of Canada as a non-country. They are part of North America but not American, their queen does not live there but is on their money. In west Canada they act British in eastern Canada they speak French. I mean which is it? I know the history and lots of people migrated there but it's just an odd place. They are always neutral in war situations or have minimal involvement. My husband is from England and the first time we visited Victoria he said "these people are wannabe English!" I understand Australia is also part of the commonwealth as well as some other countries but Australia has such a unique way of life which sets them apart. They are wonderful and I do consider them a real country. I think Canada is screwed because they are so far from the UK but yet connected to the US which puts them in an odd position.

You sure got a bunch of replies...No way is Canada a country, it's just an island that stretches the length of the United States which uses it as a hat, and Alaska is the hair pulled through the hole in the back of that hat...

Seriously we have people on our money as well...oh no...is the U.S a real country...ahhh the humanity!

Then again we did think Pluto was the 9th planet, then some moron decided it just wasn't big enough to earn it the right to be labeled a planet...Now we just need that moron to start saying countries are no longer countries, just islands...

mj_puce
DUH. No you just hallucinated about Canada after you drank to much turpentine.

As an indepenent nation since 1867 Canada is indeed a real country, and the fact we have chosen to honor our historical connection with England by remaining a part of the commonwealth and honoring the current English monarch by having her on our coins, makes us less of a Nation??? Honestly pal, questions like these only goes to show your true ignorance and surprisingly enough your lack of respect. There's the main difference between the US and Canada, because you fought for your independence and we only had to ask for ours, makes us different and less of a nation?? We also recognize our other founding nation by making Canada officially bilingual, it's called tolerance and respect.

There are other countries that have the Queen on their money. Australia and Bermuda come to mind. The queen is only on certain denominations -- not all money.

And just to clear up any confusion caused by the person who "has a Canadian friend" and therefore thinks she know one iota about about the True North: Canada has it's own money! It is the Canadian Dollar.

I used to te get upset by these assinine questions, and now I've learned to just laugh.

Here's another thing that will blow your mind: the income taxes paid by Canadians and Americans is remarkably similar. In fact, at certain income levels ($35-$50k/year), you would pay less tax in Canada.

WTF?
Of course Canada is a real country.
What because they have the queen on their money? Well so do Australians and we are a real country.
OMG

Given that England owned half the world at one time, it should come as no surprise that many countries have a queen on their money.

You are embarrassingly ignorant about other countries in the world, and you need to pick up a history book once in a while. Don't you feel like an idiot asking something so dumb?

Cuggles is just as bad.

Ñ3AP3?_TH3_L3G3ND?
have not developed a Canadian dollar system yet. THATS A INSULT TO US EH...

Are you a real person? I know you have a yahoo id, and have posted here, but does that make you a real person in the literal definition of the word?
Get real!
The Queen is not on all our money, she is on select denominations only. She is the titular head of state, but she is not the ruler of Canada. Try walking across the border without id or with a concealed weapon and you will find out whether Canada is a real country or not.

Yes. Although the monarch is still the sovereign of Canada, the Queen does not exercise her powers, but follows the advice of her prime minister. Prime minster is the head of government that advises the Queen on exercising judicial, legislative, and executive powers. There are different forms of government and countries in the world and Canada has its very own. Canadian dollars like other currencies are specifically designed to reflect a country's history, culture, people and other significance.

Not empty yet.
