Canada has a variety of climate zones and, as a result, has significant temperature variations throughout the year.
In general the regions of BC that lie on the Pacific Ocean have a milder climate during the winter. Although we do get snow it normally does not stay long although we can be subject to cold spells that can last for up to several weeks. Temperatures fluctuate during the winter with highs anywhere from -5 to +12 Celsius in the southern parts. The climate in southern BC is generally mild with a fair bit of rain and snow, we live in a temperate rain forest region while central BC is normally drier with colder winter temperatures. Northern BC is also colder as you head inland and milder on the coast with plenty of rain and snow. Coastal weather can be best described as "variable". This morning it was snowing, it changed to rain, and now the sun is shinning and it is quite nice outside.
The Prairie regions are generally colder although they can also be subject to warm weather in the southern parts. As in the rest of the country the farther north you go the colder it gets. They are also generally drier than BC. Central Canada (Ontario & Quebec) can vary quite a bit although they are often subject to colder temperatures than we are here is BC. Like here they can also have warm periods during the winter months and a fair bit of moisture. The Maritime Region is generally colder than BC since they border on the Atlantic Ocean which has colder currents off the coast of Canada than the Pacific. As they border an ocean they are also subject to rain and snow as well as winter storms. |

Yes,
Victoria, British Columbia.
I often wonder why people think Canada is a vast frozen wasteland? Sixty percent of our population lives within 100 miles of the US border. There are northern states that have a colder climate than many locations in Canada. Parts of Southern Ontario are at a more southerly latitude than most northerly US states. In many parts of Canada it is hot in summer.

No not all of Canada BC has a desert and we have many different heat variations depending on the time of year and place |

Yes,
Windsor, Ontario.
Well anywhere in Southern Ontario. Southern BC probably gets less snow, but its definitely hotter in Windsor.
When I say hot, just... sweaty... unbearable heat. Its the Humidity that really makes it uncomfortable. Last year there was a period of about 3 weeks when it was about 40 degrees. I remember one time I returned from living on the equator in Ecuador and it was hotter in Toronto when I landed than it ever was in South America. |

Absolutely. The climate in the south western portion of British Columbia including Vancouver Island, is about the same as Seattle, Washington. It's relatively mild all year round and there is very little snow, except in the mountains, where people love to go and ski. |
