Is Canada more liberal and easier to live in than America?

I live in Idaho (which is near Canada), and I've always wanted to get out of conservative fundamentalist America without having to go too far away due to family issues, etc.

Is Canada any better?

As an American living in Vancouver, BC I find the political environment very refreshing. It is more liberal, open to diverse political view points and far more open to dissenting opinions.

The Canadian people have a healthier perspective on international affairs and far less critical than the most Americans.

This area of Canada, is not only close to Idaho (which it borders), it is geographically similar to Idaho's northern regions.

happyday to you
canada is alot better, no offence, i would never live in the states

yeah I think Canada is different!!!

I'm American living in Canada, yes it's more liberal but it's alot more expensive to live here also. Housing is higher, taxes are higher, gas is 4 times times higher than in US. Your paying for that "FREE" health insurance we have here by taxes & the yearly health insurance fee which is paid according to income. Canada is very very nice mind you but many things are different here but many things are the same also. But if your going to come here, you need to make alot of plans and bring alot of money with you. I'm speaking about Ontario. Gas is sold by the litre here not by US gallon so gas "IS" higher and that's no exaggeration.

I think Canada is better. EVEN ALBERTA! Even though Alberta is more Conservative, it is not American Conservative, it is infact probably closer to the Democrates politically. And if you are looking for a place that has lower taxes, higher paying jobs, and more money spent on social programs than any other province or state for that matter, than the place you want is Alberta.

I would say so..and we don't fight with other countries,we have a better heath care system than the US and we take better care of our eldery....to name a couple of things.

Goddess of Grammar
Idaho's pretty close to Alberta, and there, not so much.
If you go to BC or Quebec, you'll see a difference. (Quebec's far though.)

We have homes in both countries. At the present time Canada is indeed freer and more tolerant. Our Supreme Court had disallowed anything like what you are doing at Guantanemo and other secret prisons. Although our Constitution does not include complete protection of free speech, it does require, unlike yours, that multiculturalism be considered in its interpretation and in our laws. Hence same sex marriage was adopted with practically no problems, couples can be legal spouses without getting married, polygamous believers of the Fundamentalist Mormon Church are not being prosecuted, etc., etc. There is much more equality in Canada. However, as another Answerer mentions you are closest to our reddest province, Alberta.

Yes our taxes are high but we certainly see more and better services (except for road paving, perhaps) north of the border. Our cost of housing and electricity is far, far higher in the USa (Boston) than here (Montréal). Gas is only about $US 1/gallon higher, not 4 times; nbr660 exaggerates.

you can run but you can not hide it is the same everywhere same **** different day just the way it is

CanProf
Canada is more liberal but less free. Yes, especially in urban Canada, you will find more lifestyle tolerance than in many parts of the United States. But on the other hand lots of things protected by the Constitution, e.g. freedom of speech, are more restricted in Canada.

canada is a waste...they always say how they have "free healthcare" but it is anything but free....their doctors are way below par, and there is a funny stench to canada...smells like failure
