All in all, definitely a great country to live in. 8/10.

Pros:
- Democratic style of government.
- Healthcare system. Everyone gets equal benefits and equal treatment.
- Social assistance system. For retired citizens, disabled citizens, unemployed citizens, etc.
- Great banking system. The only one (of the big economic countries) that hasn't gone under in the recent recession.
- Multicultural. The government encourages immigration.
- High minimum wage rate. Minimum wage will be OVER CDN$10/hour next February.
- Canadian pride.
- Rich history and culture.
- Two official languages: English and French.
- Vancouver and Montreal are two amazing cities.

Cons:
- High income tax rates.
- High tax rates in general. And taxes are always getting higher.
- Cold climate. It's normal for the temperature to reach under -20C in the Prairies in the winter.

well Canada has been rated as the 4 best country in the world last year by the UN. Wouldn't be suprised though if they were number one because of the depression. Canadas in the best shape right now because of thier strong banks.

I would give it a 9/10 because no country is perfect.

I would rank Canada a 7.5 or 8.

Reasons:
- Member of the G8 one of the highest per capita incomes in the world.
- Low population density and plenty of space.
- Clean cities, or what is generally reported in many UN or national reports comparing cleanliness to other world cities.
- High immigration rate, so more diversity than alot of other countries ( you could view that as good or bad, I view it as good).

I can think of weather as a downside. Albeit there are parts of Canada that never get snow, but I live in Alberta and it's cold here in the winter time. Immigration is high, but immigrants typically have a harder time finding long-term employment than everyone else... so there is hierarchical prejudice for sure... social mobility is better than it is in alot of other countries, but it's certaintly no where near universal equality.

The government and bureaucracy is very large (largest employer in the country actually), and taxes are higher.. but they are relatively fiscally responsible. Large government base means lots of stable employment, so you don't get the enormous booms and busts of other nations.

I wish that Canada would stop being so resource dependent... for a country with as many resources as us we should be developing them through, not just selling them to the highest bidder. Lack of economic diversity throughout the various regions is a long-term concern.

But, overall a good place to live, and lots of opportunity.

I've lived in a couple of other countries and I immigrated to Canada I would rate Canada at about 3 great but could be better.

According to a Recent popular US article on the L.A. Times.

A little question of history. Mordecai Richler (a Canadian novelist and respected writer ) once suggested that what defines Canadians is the fact that we're all, quite literally, losers--and we've never gotten over the fact. Nobody actually actively chose to live here because they really liked the idea. The natives, who were always here, didn't choose to have the European-dominated country of Canada imposed on top of them--but they lost battles, and so became Canadians. Losers. The French in Quebec are Canadians because the British defeated them back in the eighteenth century (and they sure don't like that fact these days). Losers, right? The British-based population of Canada consists of two major groups: United Empire Loyalists, the people in the American colonies who sided with Britain in the war of independence and lost, and so had to flee to Ontario and the Maritimes; and immigrants from England, most obviously people who were doing poorly there, losers at the game of life who decided to set out and try again somewhere else. Losers all again. Throughout this century, people who have immigrated to Canada have tended to be people who have lost elsewhere--lost wars, lost land, etc. Losers yet again. My own ancestors came here because of pogroms in Eastern Europe that destroyed their homes--and would have preferred to go to the US but they couldn't get in, so they settled for Canada, poor losers. We Canadians aren't patriotic because we really only settle for being here, all of us, rather than being delighted by it--and we love to whine about it. Losers for sure, eh?

why on earth would you want to live in canada? move to the middle east. you will find more happiness there.
