Canada is the best of the best, forget the rest

That's totally subjective, obviously, and depends on what you like in a country.

I was born in Canada and I've lived here most of my life, but some things done better in other countries. England and Europe have more infrastructure, better public transit, a deeper sense of history.

A lot of countries have better weather - warmer weather - than we do. I'm a little biased. I live in the far north of Canada and it is currently -8F (-22Celsius), and that's warmer than it's been for a while. Brr.

Canada used to have a reputation as a peace-keeping nation, but we don't seem to be doing a good job of that lately. We've been pressured by the States to get involved in their wars. We currently got a minority Conservative government in power and they don't seem to be able to do anything but fight with the opposition.

We have high taxes, but we do have public health care, and decent education. We've got good marijuana, which I think is a good thing, but we can't quite legalize it because of fears of the reaction from the U.S.

A lot of Canadians hate the U.S., but we happily watch their movies, and listen to their music.

Canadian quality of life is good. There are lots of outdoor activities, even in the winter. Lots of good comedians come from Canada, (but they usually move to the U.S.).

We consider ourselves more tolerant than other countries, but recent incidents like the Maher Arar and Omar Khadr cases have called that into question.

I love Canada. It is the only country I feel 100% at home. But that doesn't make it the best country in the world. I don't know if there is a "best" country in the world.

well, is there any other?

I feel it is. I am Canadian though. Health-care for all, low crime rates and we don't get as involved in others wars as our neighbours to the south do. There are perks to living in the United States. To me they are all small things like better selections of merchandise. I feel we are also a way more polite and friendly country. I have travelled all through the US and it has been my experience that there are a lot of rude Americans. The only exceptions I have found are the people I have met in Las Vegas and Virginia.

actually i dont know if it is best or the worst and the truth is i never been in north america or canada either so i dont know anything. But i guess it is good one but not the best, i would'nt say till i visit there once lol.
I live in England, so who knows it might be like england as it was a former colony. I am not sure though and dont get offended cuz i have no idea about canada whatsoever

We are definitely one of the best. The UN rates us as #4, behind Norway, Autralia and Iceland. Thats pretty good considering there are 195 countries in the world. No one country is perfect, there are always things that can be improved upon.

For individuals whose #1 Priority is
Cultural activities such as Opera, Ballet, Symphony, Legitimate Theatre -
Canada is still too "Provincial".
There is a lot more of this culture in most European Cities as well as
Manhatten, DC, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Yes it has the best quality of life in total and out of the top ten city's in the world 4 of the 10 where Canadian City's...we're nice multi cultural and a very rich country unlike the U.S you owes 7.8 trillion dollars to the chinese alone...which is alot considering the annual is 12 trillion and theres only a profit each year 1.82 trillion a year, and 489 billion of that goes to their military...Canada on the other hand has the most alliances/allies in the world and have been on more peace keeping missions than the rest of the world combined...God bless this beautiful country

Not even close. Canada is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. Still a stepchild of England.

No, Sweden and Switzerland with Australia close behind. Used to be U.S. but George Bush took care of that. I thoroughly admire the cultures of Jordan, Israel, Japan, Madagascar and Russia. You can't appreciate whole civiizations and countries through multicult. That is just a superficial view of another culture. You have to appreciate the culture of it owns entity and the actual country, not watered-down stuff mixed with someone's culture, which is not really theirs or yours.

Here is the downside of Canada:

high taxes, low wages
pointless service sector jobs with no future
apparently, according to one website, high rate of layoffs
refusal of Maritimers to work, thereby forcing Western Canada and Ontario to pay their bills and this has gone on for forty years and should be stopped, not fair to others
equalization
homelessness due to de-institutionalization and cancellation of programs (e.g. giving welfare check to schizophrenic and releasing him from jail or an institution is wrong. then he gets dumped off welfare and heads for the streets)
low crime rate is wrong, over 30,000 violent documented crimes a year (rate of sexual crimes 7/100, violent crimes 3/100, theft rate three times higher than the U.S., high rate of human trafficking and drug use) WHEN I THINK OF A GREAT COUNTRY, I don't think of prostitution and drug use. Think about what it says. There may always be the occasional prostitute from an escort service who works discreetly and voluntarily along with the occasional pot smoker but the high rate here is alarming.

multiculturalism, means immigrants get poor, don't work and don't immigrate
bad refugee policy (I imagine that bin Laden could get in easily not that I am against immigration but it is redundant to make a case for this refugee policy unless you think Omar Khadr is an ideal candidate--I don't, let him stay where he is)
release of dangerous offenders into society (I could clip out several stories and email them from local newspapers).

too cold, too snowy, too expensive, unfriendly, no culture, boring

Dink
It's okay. The U.S. is actually the best. Now you know.
