Is English widely spoken in Canada? |
I'm from Massachusetts and I'm planning to visit Canada this summer. I've heard Canada is full of surprises, e.g. snow in summer, so it is definitely one of the places I wish to visit.
Anyway, is English widely spoken in Canada? Will I be able to understand them? Or should I memorize a few phrases in the local language to communicate better? Please advise. |

Yes yes! They are just displaced Americans !Haha i'm kidding :P
The only place in Canada that isn't primarily english is the province of Quebec (the cities included are Montreal and Quebec City, where the language is French.) Areas like Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver, Yukon.....etc....ALL are english.
Happy travels :P
If you're traveling to the Quebec province, maybe pick up some french...however, the majority of people are bilingual there so it should be no issue :P I've been 4 times and never had issues. |

Yes English is the main question. About 85% of Canadian speak english. 60% English And French and about 10% All French. English And French Are The Main Canadian Languages. By The Way, I'm A Yukoner And It's June And It Snowed Once, But Melted. So It's Not Snow All Summer. |

Haha!!! This is hilarious. Well, if you really want to learn a local language, you might pick up a bit of Cree. That is the language of Canada's First People's. However, many, if not most, of Canada's Aboriginal Peoples have lost their language, so you may as well stick with English, to be safe.
I think you should be able to understand the Canadian locals, in spite of their distinctive and charming Canadian accent. And you should be able to find running water in most places that you go, too.
Have fun!! : ) |

Yes, most Canadians outside Quebec and parts of Nova Scotia speak English. By the way, many parts of New England are actually further north than the major Canadian urban centers, so its more likely thatr you will see summer snow in northern Mass. or Vermont than in southern Ontario. |
