Is London Ontario a good place to move to?

I live in Edmonton, and I am willing to move to Ontario...to a smaller city like London. My concern, are their job opportunities in london, and what about the housing prices? Please help?
Additional Details
And, does it matter where in London one can purchase a house, I mean, south or north?

Hi there.

I lived in London, Ontario for 29 years and I wish I could go back. I live in Winnipeg now for the past 8 years. If it weren't for my stubborn wife, I would be back in London right now !! It is 10 times the city that Winnipeg is.

London is the perfect big city in a small town feel type of place. It has everything you need and more. If you are looking for professional sports however you can drive to Toronto or Detroit, each only 2 hours away (I used to do this always). Home of the best CHL team on the planet (the London Knights)....go Knights !!

It is a institutional/professional type of "white-collar" city with jobs in Insurance, banking, education, legal and accounting. If you are looking for blue collar manufacturing...go to Hamilton :)

Has the 3rd largest University (UWO) and the second largest college (Fanshawe college) in Canada.

Great looking women and a night life, unlike Edmonton :)

Best wishes

London is a wonderfully multicultural city in southwestern Ontario.
It,s actually one of the few places where a Chinaman, an Irishman and an Black man can walk into a bar and it's not the beginning of a joke.

The local newspaper is the London Free Press...saturday edition has good real estate section...and classifieds for jobs

Dead Day Afternoon
London is nice.
You should be able to find work and you are only 40 minutes from some beautiful beaches on Lake Huron. And it isn't as busy as Toronto, where I live.

I moved from London, Ontario to Vancouver, BC. If I had to go back to Ontario for whatever reason that would be where I would move to. It really is a beautiful city.

The Local Paper For Jobs
http://www.lfpress.com/

The housing costs in my opinion are lower then out west. I found that in my search for a places in London, Ontario vs the Alberta/BC area that you got more bang for your buck in London. As far as jobs go there are still jobs in that area, there just happen to be more options out in the western provinces.

Keep in mind that the perk is a lot of people right now are making the big move out west to get jobs . .which means the housing prices in Southern Ontario are dropping and there are some jobs opening up. A friend of my husbands recently got laid off of the Temp. Company she was working for and found an even better job (in London, Ontario) so its all about the market your looking at getting into.

Check these sites out for jobs/housing prices as well:
1. http://londonon.en.craigslist.ca/
2. http://london.kijiji.ca/
3. http://www.monster.ca/
4. http://www.workopolis.com/

Best of luck! =)

House are considerably low compared to the rest of the province. Job opportunities are about the same as they are in Edmonton and overall London has nothing special about it. I suggest moving into a city like Toronto.
