Is Nunavut a part of Canada?

And what is the status of the lands within this nation?

Show all answers

Patrick
Nunavut is the largest and newest territory of Canada; it was separated officially from the Northwest Territories on April 1, 1999 via the Nunavut Act and the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act, though the actual boundaries had been established in 1993. The creation of Nunavut – meaning "our land" in Inuktitut – resulted in the first major change to Canada's map since the incorporation of the new province of Newfoundland in 1949.

Jessica M
Yes, It was actually added as the newest territory of Canada in 1999.
Its capital is Iqalut.

The lands were part of the NWT but are now considered a separate territory all together.

You can take a look for your self here...

Eric S
Nunavut is a territory of Canada with self-rule by the aboriginal Inuit, and they have their own government system within the nation of Canada, and they pretty much govern things themselves within their territory and have their own airline system which departs to island cities in Nunavut from "Gateway cities" in Canada's southern provinces.

Gateway cities include, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, HAlifax, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Yellowknife.
