To get in to Canada, by car, you will probably get in with your Drivers License with no problem, esp. for a day trip. It is getting back into the U.S. where you need proof of citizenship. Since you don't have that, if the car is registered in your name, you shouldn't have too much trouble. You might get scolded and told to get a passport or carry your birth certificate.

Note: Social Security Card cannot be used for identification purposes or proof of citizenship.

The law requiring passports for land and sea travel go into effect Jan 2008 or later (no date set yet). Passports are needed at present for air travel.

Until December 31,2007 you are allowed to use your drivers license. In Washington, they are telling us that is all we need. When are you going and where are you crossing at ? Check out this link for the "Correct answer".

Of course you can. But if you look suspicious then I wish you luck getting back into the states. They are one suspicious lot on the U.S. side of the border. Trust me ....I've seen them refuse entry to a car load of girls because one looked bad to them. She was the sweetest one in the bunch!

I just returned from a group trip yesterday.

Over land, a driver's license can be enough (that was all one member of a group had), but having a passport or birth certificate is a big help.

I also crossed with just a license a few weeks ago with no problem. You don't (yet) need a passport for ground crossings, so if you don't have an odd accent, you should be fine.

the driver's liscence proves identity. the SS card does not prove citizenship. you will need a birth cert. (a baptismal cert. will work too) it's nessecary to prove citizenship to cross US/Canada border in either direction. as of 01 01 2008 you will need a passport.
hope you enjoy it here.

Until Jan 2008 you just need your DL and you birth Certificate to get in to Canada,Mexico and any other country that you are NOT flying into or out of... So since you are driving all you need is your dl and birth certificate.. So you might want to get in touch with your parents and have them mail it to you

You need to prove citizenship..

You now need your passport to get into Cnanda and Mexico. I suggest you contact your parents and have them over night you your passport.
