The provinces you mentioned are cold in the winter - but warm in the summer, with 24 hours of sunshine per day. Those areas may have been uninhabitable in the distant past, but today people have shelters - air conditioned homes for the summer, heated homes for the winter, so they are no longer uninhabitable. |

About three-quarters of Canada's population live within 150 kilometres (90 mi) of the US border. The population density, 3.5 inhabitants per square kilometre (9.1/sq mi), is among the lowest in the world. So it is not that Canada is not habitable but the population is very small in relation to its land mass. |

it's not that it's not habitable, i mean i people live in nunavut and stuff, but it's just not as pleasant as say California or Florida
on top of that, the population is so small that we all fit down south so there's no real need to go up north |

I've seen people living in nunavat before. |

The far North is not uninhabitable, there just isn't much up there to draw a large population. Its much easier to live in places where resources are abundant. There are many people living in the Yukon, NWT and Nunavut. Just like Alaska is full of people. |

it may be too cold to live in the far north and not many do but lots of oil, diamonds and other resources for the rest of the country in the milder regions to use. Even at half its land mass Canada is huge. |

Not inhabitable. The guy from the new 90210 is from Whitehorse (NWT). And some people's jobs require them to live up north, say if they are in Mining or Oil, or Environmental stuff etc. |
